Valuev won the fight on a close decision the judges had it 114-114,117-112,114-113 for Valuev. I'm glad he won but I would have liked a KO. Povetkin won by TKO in 1 and Paolo Vidoz from Italy beat Micheal Sprott by UD. Valuev should get a shot at John Ruiz.

Thanks for all of the updates.Your better than Sportscenter, that's for sure.lol.One thing amazing is that a man that big can go the distance. He was in very good shape and as we know,Donald loves to run.He is a hard fighter to look good against.Valuev will destroy Ruiz because Ruiz is too slow to run.I'm glad to see Povetkin get a k.o. The future looks bright.

A guy this big ought to train in MMA and fight Bob Sapp, altho several ordinary HWs, both black and White, have K.Oed that fool already.

I notice he has 43 unbroken wins. Be interesting to see if he passes Rocky's 49.Edited by: White_Savage

Did any of you guys actually see the fight, or some clips at least? I'd love to watch it or get some idea of how the fight went. Did either fighter get rocked or go down? Did Valuev chase Donald all night long, did they trade bombs, what?? LOL

I've never seen Valuev fight and am trying to get a picture of how good he really is in the ring.

As much as I'd like to see someone give Bob Sapp another asswhuppin, if Valuev has the talent to box and WIN, I'd rather he stay put. I think its more important that we shake up things in boxing rather than add to the white domination of MMA.Edited by: White Shogun

I did not see the fight but from what I read it was very close. Vitali is by far the top Heavyweight. Valuev can beat Ruiz but I never take anything for granted. When Vitali beat Donald the fight was very one sided but this one much to close for comfort. There were no knockdowns from what I read. Guinn lost again so there black hope of a year ago is not so slowing going down the tubes. Toney is one guy I'd like to see get whipped bad. Chicken Bryd won a dull "fight" over Williamson. Bryd should be forced to fight Wlad [who beat them both!!]. Williamson should forget boxing and him and Guinn should become garbage men somewhere. Keep an eye on young Brian Minto who beat Vinny Maddalone again. Minto hopefully can be the next Joe Mesi.

I was really annoyed with Lampley and Co. during the Minto - Maddalone fight. They referred to these two guys as 'heavyweight club fighters', and dismissed them almost from the beginning.

But Emanuel Steward praised Minto's jabs, his throwing of combinations, and defensive skills. He said that he wouldn't be surprised if they step Minto up in class after this fight. He further said he expects that Minto could do very well, with a little more experience and training.

After hearing these comments, the rest of the HBO parrots jumped on the Minto bandwagon and talked about how good he could be.

Way to go, 'manuel Steward!

Brian Minto is a home grown lad from Butler,PA,I think he is learning very fast and at age 30 he does need to step it up a little. He is 5'11 212. I wish him all the best!! I respect Steward for his comments toward Minto-I have no respect for the jock sniffers like Kellerman and Lampley, these clowns think the American public wants to hear commets putting down White Males, what we want is a level playing field and the results will take care of themselves.
Kelly Pavlik fights on Oct 7th, Scott Gammer may be one to watch, he is a 6'2 215lb Welshman who beat Julius Francis last week. Oleg Platov a 22 year old Ukrianian fights this week[Oct 8th].He is another of the young Eastern European fighters to keep an eye on.

I've seen two or three Toney fights and he thoroughly dominated. I didn't see the Jirov fight though. Either he has some skill or he's fighting a bunch of bums. Or both. I watched some of his fight with Guinn and although Guinn is around three inches taller and a five inch reach advantage, he preferred to fight on the inside with Toney. That seems to be Toney's "bread and butter." Of course neither K2 would fight that way with him. They would use their height, reach, and jab to their advantage. If Wlad can fight Peter that way, surely Vitali could fight Toney that way. How could Toney get in on him?

He couldn't.Toney would get killed and I would love it.He runs his mouth way too much.I saw him on the The Best Damn Sports Show and wanted to throw up.I would love for the K2 Brothers to shut him up once and for all.
What are all the critics and fans going to do when they hold all of the belts.I can't wait and don't forget about Valuev either! The whites are back in boxing in a big way and it isn't going to change any time soon.lol.

Toney is a circus side-show in the heavyweight division. He's relatively small and out of shape despite the help of steroids. He would have zero chance at any of the top "real" contenders.

Byrd and Toney both complain about other fighters not wanting to fight. Byrd blames Don King, and also said that Toney wanted a "tune-up" with Guinn instead of fighting him. And Toney rips Byrd. They fight on the same night but not each other. Stupid. That's what's wrong with heavyweight boxing. It needs to be more like the UFC where the best fighters fight each other, and often. They're all afraid of losing their belts, or something. Or maybe it's all Don King.

And some of these fighters- like Rahman- have the nerve to say that the Klitschkos dodge opponents, even though Wlad just fought the supposedly "most dangerous puncher" in boxing. Edited by: JD074

I notice part of Valuev's training is whacking a tractor tyre with a length of steel scaffolding pole. This looks to be derived from the old wood chopping regimes used by heavtweights like Gene Tunney. Bob Fitzimmons, one of the hardest punchers of all time, built his strength by hammering horses shoes. The Russians developed some veryeffective strength an conditioning techniques during the Iron Curtain period which are largely unknown in the West. There may well prove to be more to Valuev than mere size.
