MLB has announced that it has reduced the number of rounds of the upcoming draft from 40 to five rounds. It also limited the max contract to 20,000 dollars to a free-agent signee. I guess they really are closing down 40 plus minor league teams. This was talked about long before the virus. Is MLB dying?

The MLB draft began yesterday and is continuing as I type this. The draft historically has been too many rounds to track from a racial analysis, so I typically look at the 1st round to see what the trend is. I didn’t watch any of it on tv, but when I checked the tracker it was a pleasant surprise. Basically it’s the total inverse of the NFL draft! Some rare good news.

Breakdown of the 29 1st round picks (Houston’s pick was taken away due to their cheating scandal):

25 Whites
2 Blacks
2 Mulattos / mixed race

Breakdown of the 8 1st round compensation picks:

8 Whites

So in total 33 out of 37 picks were White athletes!
