It was sad to hear that Mike Quarry passed away in California-he was only 55. According to fightnews.com the cause of death was "pugilistic dementa", the same thing that took the life of his brother Jerry Quarry. Jerry and Mike may not have been able to lick any man in the house but there was none they wouldn't try. Jerry was in my opinion the best white heavyweight between Marciano and the Russian invasion.

That is very sad. I would agree about Jerry Quarry...and he certainly was one of the toughest heavyweights....never ducked an opponent and was often out weighed by 20+ pounds....probably would fight at cruiser weight today.

This is sad news, but don't forget about Ingomar Johanson.

RIP, the greatest tribute he could recieve was from Bob Foster who said he was the best opponent he ever fought....

Mike was probably a better pure boxer than Jerry. It didn't seem that he took the punishment that Jerry did, but he still developed dementia. They must have shared a family predisposition to it. Sort of like the Curry brothers, Bruce and Donald, who were both totally shot at the age of twenty five. Sometimes the boxing gods just have no mercy.
