Yeah, Hearing rumors of complications to the vaccine. Hagler was a throwback fighter. No boasting or bragging unless provoked. No entourage or hangers on. His entourage were the two Pateronilli Brothers who he stayed loyal to. He was just business. He was a good/great fighter in that his biggest wins were against a blown up lightweight in Duran and welterweight in Hearns. His last and biggest fight he was a robbed by the judges in the Sugar Leonard fight. I had Hagler winning that fight 7-5.
 
Yeah, I think Hagler tried to box too much in that fight. He should have worked harder to rough Sugar Ray up, take some punches and just walk through him. SRL did not have the power to hurt Hagler. BTW, I hate SRL :)
 
Marvin Hagler was literally called a lunch pail fighter on pre-fight build ups, he had the pared down team of the Petronelli brothers and that was about it less his half brother Robbie Sims.

I remember after the Hearns fight he was slipping and had a war with Mugabi and then Leonard wanted to fight him. I never thought Hagler won the Leonard fight but it was winnable if he adopted a better strategy. That's probably why Leonard made him twist in the wind waiting for a rematch.

The best tribute for Hagler would be the Hearns fight.

PS Rabbi Al and Rabbi Bernstein had the best American call, much better than the HBO team of Tompkins and Leonard...

I thought Marvin Hagler's best moment was the Hearns fight. I remember his first title fight in November 1979 against then Middleweight Champion Vito Antuofermo on ABC prime time. Hagler was heavily favored, but Antuofermo rallied for a draw, retaining the title. Vito lost his next defense in a questionable decision to Britain's Alan Minter. Hagler beat Minter for the title in London in September 1980.
 
Interesting that Hagler was living in a small 98% white town in New Hampshire and was apparently well liked by the locals. Wikipedia said as a child his house was destroyed in the 1967 Newark riots, leading to his move to Massachusetts. This childhood experience with black dysfunction may have had a lasting impact on him. Impressive that he remained loyal to his Italian-American trainers, and didn't get taken advantage of by black hustlers.

Correct. that is another reason I say Hagler was a good/great fighter. Antuofermo was at best a C+/B- fighter. Yet carried Hagler a full 15 rounds. then Hagler destroyed Minter. Regardless. Hagler was good, and deserved his accomplishments. RIP
 
For what ever reason, Hagler was treated much like the prime Larry Holmes. Disparaged a lot during their fighting careers. In retirement and death they got their respect. Holmes had that perfect jab. and Hagler had that grit to never surrender.

A couple of things here. I just looked at that the Hagler vs Hearns fight again. That was a heckova fight. It is said when the ring doctor looked at his cut and asked if he could see, Hagler replied, "I ain't missing, am I." A few seconds later Hagler ended the fight by KOing Hearns
Also, I've heard/saw a report that Hagler had just gotten vaccinated. These "vaccines" have not been properly tested.

Yes, the locals say Marvin Hagler was approachable and friendly.
 
Marvin Hagler was an enjoyable fighter to watch.

He had an aggressive fighting style, he was never afraid to go toe to toe with other boxers.
