Marco Huck, (19-0, age 23) is someone we may be hearing more about in the years to come.

Huck will fight Steve Cunningham (20-1) for the IBF cruiserweight title on Dec 29. Nowadays, fighters are usually 25 before they fight for a title. But Huck has moved up quickly through the cruiserweight rankings, and with a convincing decision win over a highly regarded opponent in his last fight, he's become the mandatory for the IBF titleholder Cunningham.

Tomasz Adamek will appear on the undercard of this event. I've read sometime in early 2008, Adamek may fight the winner of the main event.

Also, the excellent Italian heavyweight prospect Francesco Pianeta (13-0, age 23) will be appearing. He is also scheduled to fight American Michael Marrone (18-0, age 22) on the undercard of Povetkin vs. Chambers on Jan 26.

Cruiserweight is picking up for whites. Enzo Maccarenelli will likely fight David Haye in 2008 in a unification match. If Huck wins this weekend, whites would control all the belts at 200. And 17 out of 20 belts from middleweight to heavyweight.

If Huck wins on the 29th we will have 17 out of 20 but only 2 out of 4 cruiserweight titles. Haye will still have the other 2.

True. I meant that if Enzo beats Haye and Huck beats Cunningham we will have all the belts at 200.

Thanks JD, excellent to know where to catch the fight. In the local paper up here in North Jersey, guess who was named fighter of the year by the local sports columnist? Kelly Pavlik. Yes Kelly Pavlik. We are finally starting to get some respect.

Huck really isn't anything special. His footwork is sound but he's not elusive at all. His hand speed is average for the weight class and so is his power. He has some boxing ability, he can block and fight his way out of pressure, and his punches are sharp and precise. His face tells you that his defense must be competent. What Huck lacks is the finesse that someone like Maccarinelli holds above him. Maccarinelli can hook off his jab, Huck cannot. If Macc. and Huck were to fight I think Macc. would win by a late stoppage or by U.D. I think the best way describe Huck is good but ordinary.

Cunningham is in no way better than Huck. And don't be fooled by his muscular physique. Cunn.'s hands are dainty and he is thin boned. He doesn't make the weight (192.5) - he fights at it. He is weighted with muscle, but that muscle appears to slow him down as he lumbers around the ring and doesn't throw in combinations. He throws 1, 2, and sometimes 3 punches and then grabs and holds on. His hands are frequently low and, no, he is not elusive. He does turn sideways and step laterally making his oponents miss. He has below average power: not suprising considering his body type but much to the dismay of those ignorant people who think muscle has something to do with strength and power.

Huck appeared relaxed at the weigh-in. He should be as he is going to win by a unanimous decision. Cunn. will grab and hold off the knockout.

Cruiserweight Tomasz Adamek (33-1) and young heavyweight Francesco Pianeta (14-0, age 23) won their fights today by wide decision, while super middleweight Karo Murat (15-0, age 24) won by 7th round KO.
