Size Doesn't Matter for Renel

Michigan Preps Staff

The knock on Rochester Adams RB Josh Renel is that he is too small. Who cares? Watch these clips of Josh and you'll be amazed by his quickness and cutting ability. It's almost like he's in a video game being controlled by a joystick. He also makes a terrific receiver with excellent hands who is incredibly dangerous in the open field. In college, Josh could be used in the slot, as a CB, as a tailback, or as a kick return specialist. He's also an incredibly tough kid who has no problem lowering his shoulder and taking a hit. He just keeps his feet moving to make good things happen. Josh had 4 straight 100+ yard games in the playoffs against DeLaSalle, Brother Rice, FH Harrison and Detroit King.

great find, GLS. i cruised the web to find out this kid's actual size, and he is listed in most newspaper article as 5-9, 175. which, while not big by any means, is certainly as big as a lot of Division I corners and tailbacks before they get to campus and hit the weight room.

i also found a video of him on YouTube returning a punt. he is an obviously gifted athlete.

Wow!! I just watched the video on MichiganPreps and Josh is incredible. Very quick and cat-like moves. Looks like Wes Welker. Rivals doesn't even have him rated, no surprise there.

Alright, Josh Renel ended up going to Division II Wayne State. He mostly did kick-off and punt returns last year, but looks to be getting more time in the backfield now that "supa afflete" Joique Bell has moved on. Here is his Wayne State bio.
