Litzau, from Minnesota, is undefeated and could be featherweight champion by the end of the year. And the first white American champ since Paul Spadafora. He fights a tough journeyman on HBO Saturday night around 9:45 EST. A win could get him a title shot. He is only 23.

By end of the year I meant 2007.

Of course, Peter Manfredo or Kelly Pavlik could beat him to being the first white American champ since 2003.

Litzau was knocked down in the first round but decisively won rounds 2-7. The only way he could lose this fight was to get knoked out. He quit boxing a guy he could box rings around and stared trading heavy punches with a guy he already knew could hurt him. Might be good for him in the long run maybe next tie he will fight smart and not try for a knock out he soes not need to get the win.

Dumb fight by Litz-OW! Easy for me to say, but he tried to knock out a guy that he hadn't hurt all night. Some guys just don't knock out so easy.

Litzau wasn't ready for HBO. If this is an ESPN fight, maybe he doesn't try so hard to impress and fights smarter. He coudn't miss with the jab. He should have been more patient and spent more time hypnotizing the guy with his jab for a few rounds, then brought out the big shots.

Litzau showed a lot of talent, but he needs more mental discipline.

Dumb kid. Litzau lost because he wasn't disciplined enough to keep his hands up, jab, and not stand in front of his opponent. He had to learn the hard way that style isn't as important as an undefeated record. If Litzau doesn't learn from this fight he'll continue to try to be something he's not. He forgot, or maybe never learned that the object is to win the fight- not to gain style points, not to prove you can outslug your opponent.

Although he's only 23, old habits aren't easily broken. I'm sure he's been fighting this way for years. Litzau has the physical tools to be a contender. Will he learn to keep his hands up and jab, jab, jab?

Litzau reminds me of Junior Jones(except he looks more fluid and more athletic). Like tall skinny fighters his chin is his weakness. He might have been getting tired when he was sandbagged by that right hand. That 8th round he was shook up a bunch of times and the right hand bomb was landing at will for his opponent. He needs to mature and realize he can be hurt. We will see if this ko matures him or ruins him.......

I agree with the overall theme of these posts. Litzau has some talent but he fought a very stupid fight. He could have boxed to an easy decision but seemed to want to showboat and trade with a bigger puncher.

He is only 23 so he has time to learn from this loss. A rematch with Hernandez is his best bet right now.

Still looking of the first white American boxing champ since Paul Spadafora in 2003.
