Yahoo is reporting Dan Henderson will drop down in weight to take on Anderson Silva on 3/1.

Does Henderson have a chance to get one back for our side?

"Hollywood" hands & chin are very underrated (as demonstrated vs. Wandy & Rampage). He has a huge advantage in wrestling, strength & toughness versus Silva. I image it might come down to BJJ. I think/hope Dan takes the strap from Silva.

I don't think Dan is underrated. He has never been knocked out. He has only even been knocked down a few times.

On the other hand people seem to forget that Dan was not that effective at 185. He fought better at 205. Now that he is used to 205 he will have to dehydrate himself a lot to make 185. Dehydrating yourself 15 pounds makes your brain more vulnerable to knockouts.

Dan Henderson is also a mestizo. He is more european than Frank Shamrock, but less european than even Tito Ortiz. So I don't really see him as representing white athletes.

Nevada, I read where Henderson walks around at 195 and has to bulk up to compete at 205. Cutting from 195 to 185 should be VERY easy. I also read where Henderson's grandmother was part Indian so I don't think he's quite the hybrid you put him up to be.

Nevada, Are you really a white nationalist or simply here to agitate and cause friction. I'm really puzzled by some of your posts on this site. You seem extremely negative at times.

Go Dan! Let's get back to 4 out of 5 belts.

Henderson supremely confident prepping for Silva

Dan Henderson gets another shot at a UFC crown when he faces middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva at UFC 82 March 1 in Columbus, Ohio.

It's a bout that Henderson, for a considerable period, said he wasn't all that interested in. The former Pride welterweight and middleweight champion said he was content to hang at 205-lbs.

Looking back at those comments, I think Henderson was being coy.

This is a fight he's wanted all along. He was appearing uninterested in the bout as a ploy in his contract negotiations with the UFC. Now that "Hendo" has been locked up for another five fights in the Championship, we can look forward to a battle between the world's two best fighters at 185-lbs.

And from the sound of it, Henderson is ready right now.
"I'm excited. I'm ready to go kick his ass. Style-wise, I'm just a bad fight for him. He's very tough, very talented, but he hasn't fought anybody like me. My strength is the clinch game, and I don't get out of position there to allow strikes. That's what he thrives on - guys that are out of position and not very good in that clinch. For me, that's where I'm going to beat him up, and if he gets there with me, I'm going to be taking him down and beating him up on the ground."

A knockout artist against a wrestler who's never been KO'd in his career ... stylistically, an MMA fight doesn't get much better than that.

Dan is NOT Mestizo, his grandmother is. So according to wikipedia he is 1/16 Native American. So he is almost totally White IMO

I dunno myself, but he seems pretty dark to be only 1/16, though I will admit my own germanic grandpa is as dark as an orange peel from all the work he does outside. I like guys like Dan because they seem to be really soft spoken and polite but put him in a ring and he becomes a beast.

Past that I don't consider him white off hand.

Indians aren't rated as "uber-affaletes", so a win for them is a blow against the Caste system.

No one seems to get the irony of not considering Indians great athletes, and considering Whites bad athletes, and then acting like Mestizos are uber, second only to blacks.

I don't think everybody really buys this BS though.

Basically, Blacks are different from the other major races in 1. The INSANE extent to which our society panders to them, and 2. How really horrible they are on average in terms of intellect or behavior.

Asians, Whites, and Mestizos are much more similar to each other than they are to Blacks, and to some degree, are all brothers in their "not-Blackness".

So yeah, I'd gladly shake the hand of any Asian or Hispanic athlete who beats up a Black in the ring, and I am a fan of certain Asian and Hispanic fighters.

The problem with the terms "Hispanic" and "Latino" are that they are pan-racial and include people from several different racial groups. Spanish & Portugese are overwhelmingly White, with some admixture of "Moorish" blood (Which is a mixture of Berber and Arab blood). Many of the residents of Central and South America retain this "Whiteness", Mestizo is a term for anyone of mixed-bloood and is most commonly used to describe those who have Native American and Iberian (Spanish/Portugese) blood. However, Mestizo can also contain ******* blood. Then you have the "natives" who have almost no European blood and are overwhelmingly poor. This group constitutes the majority of "illegal" immigrants to the States and believe me, the White "Hispanics" are more then happy to send them our way. Unfortunately, we tend to lump the White "Hispanics" in with the Mestizo and Natives who speak Spanish, and therein lies the confusion when it comes to a guy like Henderson. He is probably mostly White genetically, but he has a Spanish last name and darker features that are commonly seen as "not white". I personally have a very inclusive opinion of who is White, which includes some people (such as Armenians) who many would not. I do however adhere to the 1 drop rule when it comes to ******* blood. Unless someone can prove that Henderson has a black ancestor, I would consider him White and will root for him.

I didn't even know Dan was part Indian until I read this forum. Henderson describes himself as English, French and Native American. He is only 1/16 WallaWalla Indian. He is, without question, a white man.

After Dan beats Silva we will have 4 of the 5 belts (I still consider Sherk and Couture as champs as Penn and Noguiera are 'interim' champs).

All 5 will be ours by end of the year.

I have questions about Silva's chin. I've never seen him take a clean, hard shot to the face. It'll be interesting to see what happens if Hendo lands one of his patented rights.

Also, Dan seems quite confident before this fight. I wonder if this is one of those Max Schmelling "I see something" scenarios? We'll see. Silva's offense is top shelf.

War Dan!

I don't feel emotional about this one cause Silva is such a stand up guy.

I'm just really excited to see this fight. Silva hasn't been challenged by anybody in a while. Should be a good bout.

I don't know how well Dan measures up in terms of stand up, but he should be able to take Silva to the mat and do some damagevia ground and pound.

Silva via RNC at the end of Round 2.

Oh well, way to go Heath Herring!

I'll tell ya what. The Henderson fight was a bit of a disappointment. However, the Heath Herring victory made it a lot easier to swallow. In fact, Heath Herring looked in much better shape than I have ever seen him. When I use to order the Pride pay per views I remember him being a little out of shape. Heath was ready to go in this one. Another thing, let's not forget Heath was one punch away from stopping Nogeira in his last fight. Nogeira was hurt real bad and heath gassed and the rest is history.

If this fight is any indication I would say you could make a case that both Heath Herring, as well as Forest Griffin are possibly the two most improved fighters in mixed martial arts today.

Crap. Dan looked good in the first round but he got hit with a couple good shots in the second and looked a little tired (to me anyway)before he sucumbed to the RNC. Don't know who can challenge Silva at this point.

Nice job Heath! When Heath stormed across the octagon at the beginning of the fight Kongo froze like the proverbial deer in headlights. It was a close fight but I thought the decision was legit. Heath looked good.

Fitch continued to roll. Leben did a nice job as well. Not sure why Alesio was complaining. He took three or four undefended shots to the head.

Felt bad for Tanner. Okami was too much for him after a two year layoff and personal problems.

Good fights.

Silva seems about as unbeatable as anyone seriously fighting in MMA right now. He has the style to beat Rampage at 205 too, but not the strength. He'll probably fight Okami next who beat an overmatched and rusty Evan Tanner (read Tanner's blog btw, he's alright) and holds a DQ win over Silva.

I'm really impressed by Silva's game, and unfortunately I just can't picture him losing because he's just so big and skilled for his weight. He has a distinct reach advantage over just about everyone, superior striking ability and a more than competent ground game.

I'm glad to see Herring win against the big ass mamma-jamma hype job, but Kongo really is improving and will be back and possibly a contender in the future, though at this point I'm confident Sylvia or Nog would probably be more than a match for him.

Silva is probably pound for pound best on the planet right now. His Muay Thai is just that good. Take him to the ground to avoid it, and he'll submit you. There is no one currently fighting at middleweight in the UFC that can challenge him.

Like the props he gave to Rich Franklin post fight. Very nice and honorable.

Yeah, very good to see Heath beat Kongo. I watched in a bar and everyone was cheering hard for Herring. Gotta love his entrance music to the tune of those old Clint Eastwood cowboy movies. The black hat and cape are cool too.

Dan handled Silva the first round and I think he had a legit chance to beat him if he could have survived the 6-7 seconds until the end of the round. A rematch is in order but Dan ain't getting any younger.

Gotta give credit where it is due. Silva is the man at 185. He has beaten all the contenders and I am not sure who can take him at this point.

I think a good thing to do would be reflect on the times he HAS lost, what kind of fighters gave Silva his four losses? were these bouts in a different weight class, where were they held, etc?

Can this guy be put down? I thought I saw Dan land a few of his legendary haymakers flush and they didn't phase him. So to me at least it looked like he has a good chin to go with his well rounded game. Besides the fact he looks like a black Chris Kattan, it kind of surprises me the media hasn't used him much.

Anyone care to hypothesize on how this guy goes down in the future? If at all?
