Grambling football strike.

Some day soon college players will be fully paid and unionized. Football provides the only jobs in the country for young black males and because they have no use for the education that is supposed to be given in exchange for playing the whole sports media complex thinks they are getting cheated.

Several issues are intersecting that makes the idea of playing them to play football retarded. The loss of income for govt at all levels, the financial squeeze on the White middle class-- the only ones that pay for education in this country, and the restrictions of Title IX, which is insisting that women get as much as men for college sports, even though they generate no revenue.

And all of these problems are hitting the smaller colleges, and certainly the historically black colleges the most. With every higher level of college eliminating the restrictions on enrolling illiterate black youths, the lower rungs are really getting the scraps.

Enter Grambling, a school that always is recruiting from the dregs, with little income to compensate, having few rich boosters to fill the athletic dept. coffers. So the school ends up being run like an inner city HS football program and the supa entitled affaletes are expecting first class accommodation. They respond as expected. Going on strike. Just wait until the salaries aren't enough when the college players are getting paid. It will make the pro sports labor stoppages seem tame in respect.

It's a perfect storm for schools like Grambling.

1) They have the most entitled group of athletes that could possibly exist; NCAA Football players who hear in the media all the time about how they are "owed" salary beyond a free education... who attend a black university and hear all day long about what they are "owed" by the world.

2) You purposely build an alumni body made of black people, a greedy demographic you can't trust to tip their waitress $2, and you think you can depend on them as a group to make the donations you need to run a top flight department?

3) Because of your chosen demographic, your college primarily offers degrees in social work, leisure studies, and music, ensuring that your average graduate, who actually wants to donate, won't have the money to in the first place.

4) If they manage to guilt the world into buying them an amazing facility, how long do you think it's going to be before it gets destroyed again? When do you ever have a community of black people, with black leadership, that maintains something nice and doesn't ruin it?

I actually agree with them on the point of transportation. If you're going to put some athletes on a 12 hour bus ride you should at least provide one meal.

I find it hard to believe that it went down like that. There's not a bus driver in the world that is not stopping somewhere to piss and eat over the course of 12 hours. I think there is more to the story like perhaps the school provided food on the bus for the trip and they didn't like that as they must have passed 6,000 McDonalds and 3200 KFC's on the way. And hey a brother got to have his MickeyD's.

I'm on board with Pie's assessment earlier in this thread..
Especially points 2 & 3.. A stingy and/or broke alumni is probably the big picture problem @ Grambling.

A useless media isn't asking the question, 'Why Grambling..?' What is unique about their alumni or university that might have lead to their financial woes(?)

Most of the articles are puff pieces on the football players as victims.. Even to the point where Grambling (and other Hysterically Black colleges) are presented as a 'pressed upon' victims in guarantee games. Meaning games where they can collect close to a million dollars (sometimes) by schools with gracious alumni.. The guarantee games are the best chances for HBC schools to make $ and play on big stages.. but they're depicted as racist schemes.

Grambling can increase their financial reserves by broadening their student body & alumni. I know Norfolk St. has had a good White coach for several seasons (Adrian), & a White QB recently. If HBCs get some more White faces on campus & on the field I believe their $ will increase. But that's the rub, convincing Whites to play for a team with moldy gyms & worthless diplomas..

It's laughable to hear talk of what the afroletes are "owed". If not for the academic bar being lowered or removed, 80-90% could never gain (legitimate) academic acceptance to college. I wish these (supposed) institutes of higher "education" would cease the endless compromise on admission & matriculation standards. However, we all know that's a pipe dream. :-(

Fun fact! a huge contributor to these black football programs was George Steinbrenner. I think in his career his donated close to 60million to those schools.

Some black idiot in a comment section I read compared HBCU athletic programs to Ivy League athletics programs. Said if HBCUs should stop having athletics programs then so should Ivy league schools. Idiot doesn't understand that Ivy League schools can actually afford their athletics programs. If Harvard up and decided they wanted to raise money for a new football stadium they could raise more than Grambling's entire endowment in just an afternoon.
