I had an instructor who flat out said that blacks cannot handle "rabbit"
punches and hits to the side/back of the neck as well as whites, although
he felt they could generally take a better shot to the point of the chin and
the temple area (look at how thick the muscle over the temple area is on
many blacks). He said the inability to handle shots to the neck is why
boxing refs are so careful to baby black fighters, to protect them, when
another fighter bombs away at this area. Anyone have any info or
thoughts on this? I mentioned before a Mexican boxing trainer who told
me he felt blacks had good chins, but couldn't handle sustained body
shots or shots to the side of the neck for that matter. He felt the way to
chop them down as he said was beat their bodies, beat the neck if you
get a chance, but hit them square in the chest, and in the lower areas of
the ribcage, etc. I will say Mexican fighters back in those days who did
this were trouncing blacks the vast majority of the time.
