The Detroit Tigers had "hispanic night" at the ballpark last Saturday. There were Mexican bands and decorations, and the scoreboard had pictures and high lights of various "hispanic" acheivements, Rod Carew career hit leader, and Sammy Sosa career home run leader, that kind of thing.

There aren't many hispanics in the Detroit area, at least none that go to the games, the only ones I saw were serving hot dogs.

Maybe when hispanics are the majority in this country in a few years they will feature "whitey night" and celebrate white culture and white acheivements. Think that'll happen?

There are no hispanics that go to the games but plenty of them on the field. The Tigres have gone to a black, brown, white, line-up. First three guys in the line-up are black, the second three are hispanic, and the bottom three are white. That't the line-up almost every game. Message to white fans---white players suck. The Tigers must have the only team in the majors where the first and third baseman are the eighth and ninth hitters.

They played the A's, now that is a team to watch. One black guy and one jap, the rest white. It was a pleasure to root for them. Hopefully Mike Piazza can come back and play good for them.

Hopefully people see this "hispanic" political group for what it is, a political group. Every other ethnic group has worked hard to join America and embrace and contribute to American values of freedom from hard work. This bloc has presidential campaigners' web sites(En Espanol). Are they implying that there are non English speaking voters!

The Tigers are the poster child to the nu-wave in baseball. Although Justin Verlander deserves some notice the guy is a stud pitcher. Still think back to the best of the best Tigers position players. Bill Freehan, Norm Cash, Dick McAuliffe, the great athlete Mickey Stanley, Jim Northrup and smooth as butter Al Kaline--throw in Willie Horton who was black. Now the lineups are totally inverted where whites barely register. This is our reality now. One other thing. No disrespect but I have had it up to my neck in Jackie Robinson/Larry Doby tributes. Crap that was years ago --enough already. Thanks idiot of all idiots Bud Selig for these constant reminder/tributes.

jaxvid is right on the money when he talks of two power position players,Casey and Inge,batting at the lower end of the batting order for Detroit.This is the same situation that Jack Wilson faces in Pittsburgh,he batting ninth.

The strain of uncertainty shows on the faces of Casey and Inge,and Wilson in Pittsburgh,as they are "sent to the back of the bus".Wilson appears to be headed to Detroit,so maybe a tenth position can be added to the Tigres infield such as a rover in softball,batting 8,9 and 10,Casey,Inge,and Wilson!
