The greatest banjo picker of all time passed away. North Carolina native Earl Scruggs made his mark playing with the Father of Bluegrass, Bill Monroe & the Bluegrass Boys. He rose to fame with guitar picker/singer Lester Flatt. His album "Earl Scruggs and Friends" included John Fogerty, Elton John, Sting, Johnny Cash, Don Henley, Travis Tritt, Albert Lee, Marty Stuart & (fellow banjo player) comedian Steve Martin. Earl was not only a bluegrass legend, but a music legend as well.

Earl Scruggs popularized 3 finger picking on the banjo, which has since become near universal. I enjoy that more modern method of playing, although I like to hear good frailing as much as anything.
