did kessler vacate the wba belt?

This may be old news to some but I was wondering if anyone knew if it was true that Mikkell Kessler vacated the WBA belt? If this is true does anyone know why? I did some searches for Kessler under the news item on google and I found nothing. I initially heard about this while reading the Sydney Herald sports section and I was disturbed as he is my favorite pound for pound fighter. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

No when a WBA fighter unifies with another organization they become super champions and regular WBA champion is crowned. Essentially the regular champion is the number one contender and the Super Champion has one year to defend against the champion. Really the WBA thought of another way to tax the fighters..
