With the passing of Neil Armstrong maybe the last non manufactured hero has died. People like Bruce Jenner, Mark Spitz, Michael Phelps are to me marketing heroes. The humility of Armstrong showed in the fact that the lasting memories of Armstrong were in the time period of the moon landing. After the mission his public appearances were minimal and he didn't try and spin this celebrity into millions of dollars through endorsements or a television show.
