Another all too familiar story. Does it ever end?


GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -Former NFL running back Dave Meggett was charged with second-degree rape of his former girlfriend.

Meggett, who played for 10 seasons with the New York Giants, New England Patriots and New York Jets, is accused of raping the 27-year-old woman Wednesday or Thursday at her home, Pitt County Sheriff's Detective P.E. Moore said Friday.

``They were having some problems,'' Moore said, adding that the couple had an on-again, off-again relationship for about five years. ``He wanted to get back with her and she didn't. He came over to see her and things went bad.''

Authorities were notified early Thursday, Moore said. Meggett turned himself in to Robersonville police in neighboring Martin County on Thursday. He remained in the Pitt County Jail on Friday with bond set at $200,000.

The 40-year-old Meggett waived a court-appointed attorney during his first court appearance Friday, the Pitt County Jail said.

Meggett had been working as the director of Robersonville Parks and Recreation in Martin County.

Meggett was arrested in 1998 on a sexual assault charge in Toronto when he was playing for the Patriots. The charge was dropped.

In 2004, Meggett was ordered jailed unless he came up with the $191,600 he owed in child support. He surrendered to authorities in Dedham, Mass., after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

After six years with the Giants, Meggett went to New England in 1995 and played three seasons. He finished his career with the Jets in 1998, playing two games that year.

He later worked as an assistant coach at American International College in Springfield, Mass.

Supposedly he and his buddy double parked her and Megget demanded his money back because he wasn't satisfied with the service. Obviously Meggett has some control issues with women. Before this came out I actually was a fan of his,I guess Meggett is another athlete with feet of clay.......

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Former NFL player David Meggett was sentenced to
30 years in prison Wednesday after his conviction in a South Carolina
court on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary, authorities
said.

Meggett was convicted in a case involving an encounter with a
college student at her house in North Charleston in January 2009,
according to authorities.

Meggett, who attended high school in
North Charleston, was a running back and punt returner in the National
Football League between 1989 and 1998. Meggett played six years with the
New York Giants, three with the New England Patriots and one with the New York Jets. He had nearly 1,700 yards rushing and just over 3,000 receiving during his career.

Meggett,
42, did not take the stand in his own defense at trial and his lawyer
said he will appeal. His conviction and sentencing were reported
Wednesday in several South Carolina media outlets.

Beattie Butler
of the Charleston County Public Defender's Office argued that Meggett
and the woman had consensual sex and later had an argument.

In
1998, Meggett was arrested in Toronto, Canada, after authorities said he
allegedly assaulted an escort worker after a three-way sexual
encounter. A trial on the assault charge ended with a hung jury in April
2000.

Meggett later worked as parks and recreation director in
Robersonville, N.C., but resigned four years ago after he was accused of
sexually assaulting his former girlfriend.

He was convicted of
misdemeanor sexual battery in 2007, receiving two years' probation in
the North Carolina case. Authorities said he was allowed to move back to

I was thinking of Meggett as a Buddhist, but then again he could come back as a lower life form that procreates a lot too...

A few years ago, Newsday (LI, N.Y.), a liberal newspaper tried to do a "Where are they now" piece on former althletes. They gave up on that idea real quick. With blacks, 90+% of the time, it's only a matter of time before they do whatever stupid, idiotic, criminal act they're going to do.
