Since the Ballon d'Or opened up to non-European players in 1995, no right back has finished top 5 in voting; Carvajal is highly likely to change that this year.
In fact, in that same period, only two full backs have finished top 5; Maldini and Roberto Carlos, both of whom played left back.
It's a position that doesn't tend to get much attention, but Carvajal has won so many trophies at this point, people are being forced to take notice.
