This brings up a good question. How many other white boxers were forced to throw fights against negroes. I have a feeling Golota was one of them. He was easily beating Bowe and then threw both those fights. He gave up to Lennox Lewis in the first round and also with Brewster. He could have beaten Michael Grant as well. Some people will say Golota is stupid but no one, not even negro boxers, could have done all the stupid things Golota did. Golota made Tyson look like a genius and that's why I think he threw quite a few fights.

I was thinking the same thing. Just like Golota, how many great white fighters have faced this same thing? Quarry? Cooney? Bobrick? Golota was far from crazy, maybe he was forced or paid to let the "Negro" win?

I've never heard that about golota and I just googled it. Do you have a link for Golota being drugged?

I've been around a lot of junkies in my life and the minute Golota showed up for the Lewis fight - late and all by himself and in a cop car! - the first thing I said when I saw his glassy eyes was, he's been drugged. A lot of Andrew's fights were suspicious, to put it mildly. Unfortunately he's mixed up with the Polish Mafiya. On the other hand, he won the heavyweight championships fair and square by beating both Ruiz and Byrd, and both times he was robbed by the crooked referee (Neumann) and the crooked judges.

The most infamous one of all: Max Schmeling - Joe Louis II.

Golota was a world class fighter and no way in hell he
loses both to Brewster and Lewis in a round. A lot of second tier
heavyweights would put up a better fight than that.

As for the OP, I'm sure some stupid coon's scrawled crayon letter wouldn't have caused Rocky any sleepless nights. He was another one mixed up with the Mafia. They reportedly once did try to get him to throw a fight. He refused and told the bum that he was a disgrace to the Italians.

The Lewis and Grant fights were suspicious as hell, but I think he got legitimately KO'd by Brewster. The two with Bowe - nobody has ever managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like Golota did! And then he walked away from Tyson, and he was so strong that even though all he wanted to do was go home he was accidentally winning round two anyway!

Golota is one of the strangest stories in boxing history, and the truth has never been told. A mixture of crookedness and his flaws and foibles, I think.

Interesting info here. No doubt some people take threats seriously and lose on purpose. Others take a dive for money. Some probably are drugged. I'm glad to see that Rocky didn't take those threats too seriously!

This is one that the media won't be covering anytime soon!

Rocky Marciano received death threath before he fought the negro Cheales...http://www.tauntongazette.com/news/x215603412/Rocky-Marciano-received-death-threats-prior-to-fight-FBI-files-reveal

Nothing new about this story. It's mentioned in the 1977 Marciano biography, "Rocky Marciano: Biography of a First Son," by Everett Skehan.
Right, it was in Mariano's biography, but my point is the media have never made an issue of it like they have with negro fighters of the past.........
