The Detroit media is going wild about the "return" of Chris Webber. The Pistons are expected to claim him on waivers. Webber grew up locally and played at the University of Michigan, where he almost singlehandedly destroyed one of the premier basketball programs in the country. Webber, you might remember called a time out in the closing seconds of the NCAA championship game, a time-out his team didn't have, the ensuing foul and loss of possession gaurenteed defeat.

He was also at ground zero of a recruiting scandal as he received a bunch of money from a local "booster" as did many other players. The NCAA came down hard on the U of M for the scandal and the program has never really recovered.

Webber was eventually found guilty because he lied to a grand jury, I think his punishment was something like limiting him to one white hooker per road trip or some similarly ridiculous "punishment" that is meted out to famous black athlete/criminals.

Anyway he was hated in the Detroit area after that. He was heavily booed every time he showed up to play the Pistons when with another team.

Now though everyone is going ga-ga over this clown. He is being treated like a hero returning "home". Fans everywhere are glad to see him back and the media is having an orgasm about it.

How quickly the white sports fan forgets!

I thought his punishment was being forced to play in Sacremento where there was no solefood. Also his hookers were peroxide blondes not natural.......

It's OVER!

Basketball players sure do fade the fastest! That is, if they were good in the first place.

Is "C-Webb" now going to take the spot of Derrick Coleman on Spike TV's "Pros vs. Joes?!"

I predict the following:

1. A lot of superstar-hype
2. Underwhelming performance in limited minutes
3. The inevitable injury
4. Sitting out the remainder of the season
5. Waived by the team
6. Playing in Greece
7. Hollywood Squares

Have fun, Webby.

I would concur with White Tornado -- check out some Jason Williams and
Chris Webber highlights, for as beautiful as the game can get.

Man, I wish that Kings team won the title in 2002. Or was it 2003? It was Bibby by then though, not Jason Williams The Kings literally beat the Lakers in 5 out of the first 6 games, but the officiating was so biased favoring Shaq and Kobe that it cost the Kings the series.

The ghost fouls on Vlade, Horry's shot after the buzzer to win one game, a ghost foul in crunch time on Doug Christie guarding Kobe sending Kobe to the line etc. etc. That was "by far" the worst officiating "I have ever seen" in any professional sporting event and I completely stopped watching the NBA for 3 years b/c of it! It might have been more blatantly ridiculous, than that French judge who got paid off at the Olympics pair's figure skating event! The officials were adamantly favoring Shaq and Kobe and the big market Lakers! Several Kings even spoke out about it despite the risk of big fines.

Then the Kings doomed themselves in game 7 by shooting a lower FT% that game as a team than Shaq's season FT average.

I certainly remember that early 2000 Kings team and they were extremly fun to watch. It gets hard to remember all the rip off jobs over the years(because there are so many) but that was certainly one of them. I just hope Dirk and Nash get a ring before their careers are over. Maybe if they had stayed together? Thanks Mark Cuban!
