Officials Upset Not Enough Minorities Hired in Major League Baseball

A report says that officials in Major League Baseball have been frustrated by a lack of minority hires in management positions.
So now the league is going to take over race based hiring and intends to force more minorities into baseball management positions, even if they have to create new positions or change qualifications for existing openings.

News of the new effort revealed that MLB officials are upset that executive search service Korn Ferry hasn’t picked any minorities for front office positions across the league. Officials say they will sideline the headhunter firm and take over the search for prospective hires themselves, according to USA Today.

“The Korn Ferry relationship on minority hiring, we’ve really shifted,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said at the recent owners meeting. “Their involvement at the industry level is going to be curtailed on these types of projects because, as we went along in the process, we came to realize there’s a potential for conflicts when they’re doing searches and doing work for us centrally.”

Despite their obvious success having just won the World Series, the Chicago Cubs received a push from Manfred to change its front office makeup in order to place minorities there. The commissioner also badgered the Professional Baseball Scouts & Coaches Association to do the same.

Aside from a lack of minority recommendations, Korn Ferry faced other problems, namely an insular pool of candidates. According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, “Mostly all the hires had backgrounds with the Cleveland Indians, or had a relationship with Toronto Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro, the Indians’ former president and GM.” And few minorities formed part of the recommendations.

Whatever the failings of Korn Ferry, it is clear that MLB intends to make a drive for diversity over meritocracy. it will be no less than a quota system for baseball.

This kind of garbage has gotten so old. I would say boycott MLB, but it is still much more White then the NFL and NBA.

In a business where only merit is presumed to be the rule, it is a wicked deviation from that rule not to hire executives who presumably are seeking the best performers based on that rule. So is it a tacit acknowledgement of the proposed implementation of caste baseball?

These anti-whites support a race-ocracy instead of a meritocracy.

They've been bitching about blacks fading from baseball for like 25 years now. Despite MLB's best efforts trying to shoehorn non-whites into positions of management as well as on the field, the fact remains that the cream of the crop in baseball was, and always will be white.

I disagree. They've done a great job of integrating non-whites into MLB over the last 15-20 years at least. Currently 9 of the top 10 active home run leaders are non-white. Now that Teixeira has retired, the entire top 10 is non-white.
Currently 9 of the top 10 active hit leaders are non-white. Do I need to go on?
Heck, even the top 2 active win leaders are non-white!
Just recently have we seen white superstars back into MLB, Trout, Bryant, Harper, Turner, Kershaw, Bumgarner, etc.

You're probably right. I don't know the exact numbers, I was just going by what seems like plenty of white stars to root for, unlike the NFL.

No problem. There are some white stars to root for, even before Trout and Harper, and Kershaw and Bumgarner. Players like Chipper Jones and Mark Teixeira. Ian Kinsler and Dustin Pedroia. Pitchers such as Justin Verlander and Zach Greinke. Chipper Jones, probably the best of the bunch. Just wondering how many other great white players were passed up just for diversity purposes.
I hope Trout, Harper, and the rest stay healthy and play for a long time and try and crack the top 10 in some of the categories I mentioned. HR's, hits, wins, etc.

Sometimes we focus solely on our guys, not a bad thing and we don't necessarily pay as much attention to the minority stars. No big deal but generally speaking both MLB and NFL have more white stars at this point compared to the 90s. NBA is different as we had plenty of homegrown white American talent as stars.
