On the Stanley Cup playoff thread (I think) someone mentioned that the black players Donald Brashear and Georges Laraque were poor skaters or something to that effect.

Well, what constitutes "good" skating and "bad" skating? Like I remember mentioning on CF, when tuned in to an event, I pay little attention anything than the score bug on the screen (and, may I add, eye candy shots!

).

Educate me as to hockey skating quality, sil vous plait.

I don't know anything about skating, but I am getting to hate eye candy shots. Why do I want to see a good looking women with another guy? Good for that guy , but bad for me. I used to like it, now it just makes me mad. I'd rather just watch the game and not see what I don't have rubbed in my face.

good skating includes maximizing the sum of all joint forces to generate propulsion.

this is achieved by skating in a standard athletic stance, keeping your butt low, back straight, head up, knees bent and staying stable. Edited by: C Darwin

Look up some youtube videos of former NHL player Mike Gartner to know what good and incredibly fast skating looks like. Mike Modano in his prime was a pleasure to watch on a breakaway as well.

Thanks, people. Sorry for my snittiness this morning. Next season I'll watch Laraque's and Brashear's skating techniques (especially Brashear's, as I live in the "Baltington" [or is it "Washimore"?] market). Also those of Ray Emery (ex-Sen, now Flyer), to see how black goalies move and stand in the crease. I'll bookmark this thread to remind myself.
