Seems hard to believe, but it could happen. News is circulating that after Harper's MVP season he would actually be a bargain. By FANGRAPH'S calculation his production this season alone was worth something like $76 Million.
Harper is eligible to hit free agency at the end of 2018. If he remains healthy until then or doesn't sign an extension, speculation is he will sign the biggest contract in MLB history. Somewhere between $400 and $500 million. Remember, A-Roid signed his $252 million after 2000.
On a side note: Zack Greinke signed a 6 year/ $206 million contract with the Diamondbacks!
