Adonis Stevenson, Black Haitian-Canadian who holds the WBC Light Heavyweight Title is scheduled to face White American Tommy Karpency 09/11 in Toronto, ON, Canada. No disrespect to Karpency, but as a title challenger he is extremely limited. I recall Karpency fighting Karo Murat (who is also quite limited) and losing a one sided decision in Germany, and thats really the only notable fight of his career. Other than that he has fought essentially non-televised fights. He is between C and B level.

This is a "set up" fight for Stevenson, and Karpency has to be the easiest possible title challenger at Light Heavyweight, he is even a few levels below Nadjib Mohammedi, Kovalev's recent challenger (whom Kovalev only fought because it was his mandatory and was therefore obliged to).

In short, this is piss-poor match making from Stevenson and his team, but what else is new? This guy has been ducking Kovalev, Pascal, and Hopkins for years. All 3 would beat him, Kovalev would annihilate him. Its amazing this guy gets away with fighting bums for his entire title reign. He's dodged every marquee fight possible. Kovalev already destroyed a Haitian Canadian (Pascal) and honestly Id expect him to do an even bigger job on Stevenson if they fought.

Is there any bigger ducker in the sport than Stevenson? Maybe Quillin, but I think Stevenson takes it.

List some other examples of Black duckers in the sport.

Floyd Mayweather - He ducked Paquiao for years when Manny was in his prime and only agreed to fight when Manny was over the hill.

Roy Jones Jr. - Ducked Dariusz Michaelszewski for ever, even though Dariusz repeatedly called him out. The two never fought.

Lennox Lewis - I say this only because Vitali really wanted a rematch with Lewis after their fight, but Lewis chose to retire instead. That is a duck.

I once very carefully watched that fight on video, pausing and rewinding it, and noting down the exact times in each round that Lewis first opened up the cut on Vitali's face by raking the lacing of his gloves across his face - and Vitali had never even been cut before in his entire kickboxing and boxing career! - and then all the many times that Lewis deliberately worked to open up the cut by rubbing it with his glove lacing and his steel wool hair.

Too true.
