The black men and women of the U.S. 4X100 relay teams show they don`t understand the first thing about teamwork by failing to execute simple baton handoffs in qualifying heats and fail to move on to the finals.

Absolutely pathetic.

I look forward to some other countries winning the medals.

I saw Michael Johnson talking on BBC and he sounded like an exasperated parent when talking about the relay team bobbling the baton. Was a foreign substance on the US baton again.......

Doesn't make up for Wariner losing gold but it helps.

Yeah lots of American track stars failed at these Olympics. Maybe Wariner will actually use this to motivate him like he's never been motivated before. He should come back to Hart. IDK maybe 3 1/2 years from now Wariner will be getting ready for the London Olympics already with a world record on his shoulders in the 400 meter. Wariner will have to improve his 200 speed first though to break the record I'm afraid. At this point the WR is the last thing people are thinking about when they think of Wariner, but I know Wariner is still thinking about it.

I think getting a WR at the Olympics in an event like the 400 meter is really hard with all the pressure. It's an event where if you run it wrong you can run out of gas trying to go for the WR and run a really bad time. It would be better to get it at another venue. Maybe Wariner felt the pressure from the false start of the field and then came out way too hard vying for the record.

Russian women win. Lots of DNf's from black squads--teamwork?--they
prefer individual glory. A win is a win though and cooridination counts for
soemthing--just ask the female pole vaulter who is ten times more flexible
than black sprinters.

The Japanese got the bronze in the men`s 4X100 relay. They know that individually their runners are not going to match up against the world`s best. They have 4 guys who run 10.15-10.30 on their best days. But they also realize darn well that flawless teamwork in baton passes can make the difference between a finals appearance and not qualifying. And with the flops of so many countries this go round, they actually were able to get the bronze medal. The black Americans who only think about themselves could learn a thing or two from the Japanese.
