nuh! crap really. Very disappointing in an Olympic year.

Shirvo false started. Next time around Johnson propped (and Shirvo with
him) when Gowa seemed to get a fly. Johnson particularly gave up metres
while Shirvington lost a lot of ground too and ran to play catchup.
They both lodged protests that were dismissed.

10.63 (-1.7),slowest winning time for an Aussie 100 title for 29 years.

No Sally McLelland meant another (much slower)hurdler , Fiona Cullen,
won the 100 in a slow 11.80

As we draw our T&F athletes from an ever diminishing number of young
participants it seems it can only get worse.

Track is probably losing a lot of athletes to swimming now, in Australia at least.

well,
as I expected, NO SPRINTERS to Beijing. They're just not running fast
enough.

A 4x400 mens team has been selected already.... the 4 x 100 has it's last
chance to gain selection in May in the Osaka Grand Prix.

No womens teams for either relay

They took silver in 04 in the 4x400 with 3 white runners.

Australia is a lot more serious about sports than the US. It leads me to believe that white americans could be a lot faster if they were as serious as Australians.

A white american sprinter under 10 seconds in 100 meters seems completely realistic. The interest is just not there.

Britain is also a lot more serious about sports than the US(at least among whites). I have no doubt that there are white Americans that could be fabulous sprinters but either are too brainwashed to go four it or are too high on the socio-economic ladder to risk a white collar career for a pipe dream.Edited by: white is right

Exactly right. There's no God given mandate that a white skinned person
has to stop at 10.01 or so (that I know of). A second is just a construct
anyway.
If anyone has the population and the weather conditions it's surely the
States.
I met a great guy (black American) who's been in Sydney for 6 years at
my masters championships on the weekend and we hads a good talk
about this.
His take was that in the States there is much more sports stereotypng
than in countries like Australia.
We laughed at that whole scenario, since his season 100 metre time and
mine were virtually the same yet I'm 19 years older
