That sounds great. I hope we can get some good video coverage of the boys and girls races. Especially the sprints. I hope Hannah can repeat as national champion again!

AAU Jr. Olympics Youth Long Jump 14U

Matt Moran; Seattle Speed; Same team as H. Cunliffe, Silver, 2nd place with a 22'0 jump unofficially, I will try to update as I can.

If this becomes official, it's an awesome placement for Moran!

100 m, begins 3:00 central time

Great result for Matt Moran. I would like to see the jump. Hope he stays with athletics in his future.

Hanah just ran in the prelims. She had a wicked wind to run against but still easily qualified. Take away the wind and she probably would have been the fastest girl. She just ran in the wrong heat. Not too worried other than the wind does make you a little more tired. Anxious to see what she does in the next round. Here are the top 8 results.

Preliminaries
1 Deanna Hill 96 Gainesville, FL 11.95Q -0.4 9
2 Aleia Hobbs 96 New Orleans, LA 11.97Q +0.0 10
3 Jada Martin 95 Atlanta, GA 11.99Q +0.0 11
4 Aaliyah Barnes 95 Columbus, OH 12.02Q -0.1 12
5 Hannah Cunliffe 96 Federal Way, WA 12.03Q -1.5 3
6 Marcquita Stalbert 95 New Orleans, LA 12.13Q -0.5 8
7 Savannah Carson 95 Naperville, IL 12.16Q -0.1 6
8 Paisley Simmons 95 High Point, NC 12.25Q -1.7 1

Thanks WL, was just about to post H. Cunliffes' result, but you beat me to it!

You may have some ideas about Hannah on this; Why has she backed up a little from last year?
She ran from 11.75 to 11.98 last year. I think her best time this year has been 11.99, has not broke 12.0 this year, maybe once.

I see this with other athletes as well, but not quite to this extent. For example: some sprinters I know of may hit a wall, but do not go backwards as Hannah has. Any thoughts?

Thanks Again.

It could be due to many things. My hypothesis though is that she developed physically earlier than alot of girls and now they are catching up to her. I still think she will be just fine. We never know what other personal things could be going on as well. She has qualified and I look forward to seeing her run in the semi finals.

Jacob Lady Schreiber qualified too. There are probably some other sprinters for us to watch but I just took a very quick glance. Maybe someone can tell us who elso to root for out of the boys and girls in the sprints? Thanks guys.

I wouldn't worry about Hannah slowing down yet. However, as I've been able to read about more young runners (thanks to the Internet), I've noticed that it's very common for girls to peak in junior high or in their sophomore year. The really athletic ones are lean and mean at age fourteen, but then the estrogen kicks in and slows them down. Some never achieve as adults what they did in junior high. Right now, for example, I'm still waiting for Laura Roesler--one of the best collegiate 800 meter runners in the country, and the second-fastest 400 m split runner--to equal her 800m work as a sophomore in high school. She'll get there, I hope, but right now she's fighting the estrogen factor.

As for Hannah, though, I'm not sure she's really slowed down yet. I doubt she pushed it in the semis.

AAU Jr. Olympics Youth Boys

Trevor Chew 11.60 qualified to second round sitting 12th overall, has a chance to medal? (top 8)

Matthew Moran 11.64 won his heat, but sitting around 18th overall, will have to pick it up to medal!

Still good showings out of 94 of the top sprinters in the country. The competition in the sprints is some of the best I've seen. Kids putting up great times in the pre-lims!

If you place, which is top 8, you've done well!

BTW, Hannah has a sister(Sophia), competing in the sub-midgets 100m, I believe she finished top 50.

200m-400m pre-lims today!

AAU womens intermediate:200m: H. Cunliffe, won her heat 24.50, sitting 4th overall.

youth boys 200m: Matthew Moran, second in his heat, but sitting 8th overall, could possibly medal!

Trevor Chew, 3rd in his heat, at 16th currently, will have to work to get to the finals!

May be some players in the 400m and triple jump tomorrow!

Two years ago, when I attended the event at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, you could watch live streaming for free!

Then last year in Virginia Beach, they started charging like $8.00 per heat/event, crazy, so far I haven't seen anything on the AAU Junior Olympic site. In this economy no one is going to pay, I guess, so this year it has been disbanded all together, again I'm guessing. Try the website: aaujrogames.org.

Sad news to report: Hannah Cunliffe false started in the 100m semi-finals, thus disqualifying her in an attempt to defend her AAU Junior Olympic 100m Gold!

I wish her a victory in her defense of the 200m Gold!

McGregor Wooten places 7th and medals in the Youth Boys Triple Jump!

T. Chew DNQ for the finals, but ran a 11.58 100m finishing 15th overall.

M.Moran DNQ fot the finals, ran 11.66 100m finishing 20th overall.

That is just terrible news for Hannah. She should read about what happened to Christophe Lemaitre at the 2009 World Champs. He was devestated too but has dominated ever since. It is a learning experience. What a shame. Good luck to her in the 200.

Matt Moran is probably just tired from doing multi-events. He probably would have run a little faster if he did just one event. Thanks again for keeping us up to date.

Flotrack .com has shown many regional and national junior meets. They show it a few hours later on a Quick time type video. I have no clue if this meet is on their website.

Youth Girls 200m Maddie Gorley, won her heat at 25.47, sits 4th overall headed into the finals. She has a good chance for Bronze and could be a rising star, has an older brother who used to run?

Youth Boys 200m Matthew Moran who won Silver in the long jump, has qualified for the finals! Ran 3rd in his heat at 23.38 and sits 7th overall, and will medal.

Intermediate Womens 200m Hannah Cunliffe, 3rd in her heat at 24.63, sits 7th overall. It will be tough to
repeat, let's hope for the best!

OK, here's what I know about the AAU Junior Olympics final Day:

Girls 200m youth finals: Maddie Gourley 5th at 25.62, awesome Maddie

Boys 200m youth finals: Matthew Moran 7th at 23.19, good job Mathew

Womens 200m intermediate finals: Hannah Cunliffe 3rd at 24.34, way to bounce back after FS in the 100m semis Hannah. Hannah will compete in this division again next year, so I look for her to win this division next year!

Young Womens 100m finals: Emily Damico 6th at 11.99!

Young Mens 100m finals: Cody Brooksbank 7th at 11.00!

CF's, remember anytime you can make it to the finals at The AAU Junior Olympics, it's a major accomplishment! I'm sure there were some other outstanding white athletes, but these are the ones I could get info. on.
