It's set. July 19th on SpikeTV the main event will be Anderson Silva moving up to light heavyweight to face James Irvin. Irvin is the guy who used the "superman punch" to defeat Houston Alexander. Good luck making that work against Silva. Should be a slugfest though. There is talk if Silva is successful that it might set up a superfight one day between Liddell and Silva.

Interesting fight. I don't think Irvin can win but I have questions about Silva at this weight. Will the extra 20lbs hurt his cardio? His agility?

I don't think Irvin will be able to get close enough to inflict any real damage but you never know.

Silva's frame is probably more suitable for this weight class anyway. He's a huge beast a step down. If Irvin wins that would be the biggest upset I can think of.

I agree with the tenor of this thread. We'd all like to see Irvin win and maybe the extra weight will prove to be too much for Silva.

But Anderson is currently the best fighter in MMA.

Maybe. I think Fedor is the best fighter in MMA.

I'm hoping Irvin gets the flash KO and hits Silva once or twice more after Silva's head bounces off the canvas.

No doubt that Anderson is a great fighter, but I think St. Pierre, Fedor, and even BJ Penn have to be considered equally as good as Silva, perhaps better.

Silva is not a bad guy, not a loud mouth like most black fighters. Still, I'm hoping for James to get the win, but I highly doubt it. However, if Silva wins, it may eventually set up a match between he and the Iceman! Now that's a fight I would pay to see!

James Irvin did not make weight.

He made weight on the second attempt, 206, same as Silva.

While I don't refuse to accept the fact that anderson silva is a great fighter. I just can't shake the feeling that was a work, and I'm not hung up on James Irvin either. Irvin got punched once, fell down and covered up for like five seconds and then Anderson Silva finally conceded and kindly hit him until the ref intervened. Anderson looked as if he was suprised that his punch stopped him. Upsetting, at least the IFL fight was entertaining, and now, bring on CB and Taylor!

Yeah Irvin probably just got his ass knocked out, but still. Weak.Edited by: nopictures

Yeah I watched the replay and felt pretty stupid for suggesting that, Irvin just got smashed. It was parallel with the Fedor v Sylvia fight, where a great fighter absolutely destroyed a good fighter like it was nothing.
