It was over 38 years ago when Marlin Briscoe became the first black QB to start an AFL game, and there is still no black QB legend like Montana, Starr, Marino, Staubach, Elway, Manning, Brady, Favre, Fouts, Tarkenton, Young, Unitas, Baugh, or even Conerly. When will it happen?

Most teenage football fans today couldn't tell you who Warren Moon is, and I bet most wouldn't know Randall Cunningham, let alone Doug Williams or Joe Gilliam. The best black QB's seem to fade into obscurity in the public minds. Why? Because they weren't that great. They aren't known for winning championships and being team leaders. Some of these guys may get into the Hall because of their skin tone, but most people would agree whites dominate the most important position, even after 20+ years of forced integration of the position. I don't know how well Warren Moon is known among teenage football fans, but he deserves props for being a great quarterback. If he hadn't played in the CFL for a number of years he may have surpassed most or all of Dan Marino's career records.

Moon's a surefire bet to make the Hall of Fame this year along with Troy Aikman. He was a dropback quarterback, not a runner. He and the Houston Oilers were also well-known for their playoff failures (chokes).

Moon is comparable to Bob Gibson. An occasional great pitcher or quarterback doesn't change the fact that whites always have and continue to dominate those positions.

Good point about Moon, Don. He was a very good quarterback, but he and other black QB's aren't remembered like white QB's have been. Moon was consistent, and probably as close as any other black QB has been to being a real team leader. I forgot about Aikman I guess because I disliked the Cowboys very much when he was there.
