Since 2005 starter list was 9, 8, 8, 9, 11, 12, 8, 6, 9, 13 ,10,7,9, 8, 10, 10, 9, 4, and 7 whites. Purdue looks to start 6 in 2025.

First year coach Barry Odum brought in 54 transfers, but please do not think there will be anything challenging the racial status quo on this team. They are a typical caste squad with some whites on the line, a white QB in Ryan Browne, and white tight ends. Strong Safety Crew Wakley is the lone white starter on defense. For us, we should hold off on cheering for Purdue until basketball season tips off in November as that squad will be 1. be a much better team and 2. be much more favorable to our guys (I am sure it is a "mere coincidence" that those last two are occurring hand in hand though).

Purdue really got boned by the transfer portal after its failed affirmative action coaching experiment. Former starting safety Dillon Thieneman (Oregon), tight end Max Klare (Ohio State), and linebacker Yanni Karlaftis (Northwestern) all transferred last December, before Odom was hired.

Thieneman and Klare are all-conference level players with pro futures. Karlaftis might not be there yet but will surely get an NFL camp invite just on his brother's name. The NIL "market rate" for Thieneman and Klare was about $800-900k each - no idea if Purdue operates in that sphere.

SS Crew Wakley transferred in from BYU: he was set to be a "co-starter" for the second year in a row and picked Purdue explicitly for playing time and reel for a shot at the pros.

Odd trivia: Barry Odom (new head coach) hired Ryan Walters (old coach) as a cornerbacks coach at Memphis back in 2014 and brought him with him to Missouri. When Odom was promoted from DC to head coach, he promoted Walters from position coach to DC.

Odom had a pretty black team while at Missouri - Cody Schrader arrived the year after he left. Odom's last two seasons were spent rehabbing the UNLV team. On the one hand, he recruited up-transfer QB Matthew Sluka from Holy Cross. On the other hand, he lost him after four games when nobody paid him :sisi1
