Since 2005 the number of White starters for Penn State has been 8, 10, 9, 8, 12, 10, 8, 10, 9, 10, 8, 8, 8, 6, 8, 5, 2, 4, 3 and 4. The number drops back to 3 to begin 2025.
Penn State was 13-3 last year, winning two playoff games before falling to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl. James Franklin has admittedly been mostly successful in converting the Nittany Lions from what had been a relatively White friendly program for decades into a hardcore Caste one that continues to win a lot of games. Of course he's been helped a lot by top players like TE Tyler Warren and QB Drew Allar.
After a huge 2024 that resulted in him winning the John Mackey award as the country's top collegiate tight end, Warren is now with the Colts as their first round selection, hoping to duplicate the huge rookie years of Sam LaPorta (2023) and Brock Bowers (2024). Warren's replacement this year is named Khalil Dinkins, and it doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to decipher that he isn't White. If it's any consolation the next four tight ends on the depth chart are.
Allar was fantastic in '24, completing 262 of 394 passes (66.5% completion rate) for 3,327 yards, 24 TD passes and 8 picks, while also running for 302 yards and 6 TDs. At 6' 5" and 235 pounds he has ideal NFL size, especially so given his mobility. He should be one of the first players drafted by the NFL in 2026, maybe even first overall.
This is a good scouting report on Allar: https://nfltraderumors.co/scouting-report-on-penn-state-qb-drew-allar/
Penn State actually had a White starting linebacker last year, Dominic DeLuca. But the walk-on has been demoted to begin the 2025 season and is now listed as second string. There are no White starters on defense and LB Anthony Speca joins DeLuca as the only other White on the two-deep.
At wide receiver, redshirt senior Liam Clifford is a second stringer who sees the field some -- 89, 130 and 286 yards receiving the past three seasons respectively. By Franklin's standards that qualifies as a Caste buster.
QB: Drew Allar
RG: Cooper Cousins
RT: Nolan Rucci
