The Giants have been a very anti-White organization since the days of GM Ernie Accorsi, when they allowed Whites to play at CB (Sehorn), WR (Jurevicius) and RB (Bennett). Since then, other than a very brief period in 2013 and 2014 when they utilized Peyton Hillis, they have been a typical Caste Squad; White QB, some O-lineman, TE and maybe 1 linebacker (on a good year). Under the Schoen and Daboll regime, its been more of the same until the surprise 4th round draft pick of Cam Skattebo. Sparking interest at CF for the first time in a long time, let's see what this year's Giants have to offer.

Total White Athletes on Roster (Starters in bold):
13 Whites total, with 5 starters. Grade: D-

QB -Jaxson Dart
RB - Cam Skattebo
WR - Gunner Olszewski (KR/PR)
TE - Daniel Bellinger, Thomas Fidone II
LG – Jon Runyan
C - John Michael Schmitz, Austin Schlottmann
RG - Greg Van Roten

ILB - Micah McFadden (IR)

K - Graham Gano
P - Jamie Gillan
LS - Casey Kreiter

PS – Jude McAtamney (K), Bryan Hudson (C), Reid Holskey (T), Jake Kubas (G), Swayze Bozeman (LB)

The roster numbers and starters are still poor but there is a bit more excitement within them. The aforementioned Cam Skattebo was arguably the best running back in college football last year, with only Ashton Jeanty being statistically on par or better. But let's look back first, shall we. Cam has a similar story to countless other White athletes at skill positions coming out of high school. The catalyst for a state championship at his Sacramento suburban HS junior year with 3,550 yards rushing and 42 TDs, that should have put him on the radar of every big program within state. Of course, the opposite happened. Only 1 D1 scholarship offer from the school in his backyard, Sacramento State. Weird how that works, right? After dominating there for 2 seasons he was able to transfer up to Big 12 program Arizona State. After a solid but unspectacular junior year, Cam exploded as a senior and turned a very mid program into a National Title contender. Thanks to his 1,711 rushing yards, 605 receiving yards and 24 total touchdowns the Sun Devils won the conference and landed a spot in the expanded playoffs. His playoff performance against huge favorite University of Texas was one for the ages. He left Arizona State as the record holder in single season rushing, as well as becoming the only player in program history to top 2,000 total yards in a season. He finished 5th in the Heisman voting and combine tested just fine athletically for a power back, so you'd expect him to get selected shortly after his closest peer Jeanty, right? Well if you thought yes after how he got jerked around out of HS, you don't understand the Caste System or racial politics in America. 6 additional running backs were deemed better than Cam until the Giants stopped the slide and got a steal. A preseason injury limited Cam so it was not surprising when he was minimally involved in week 1. However, it was surprising that by week 2 he had leapfrogged assumed RB1 Tyrone Tracey in usage and the depth chart too according to Ourlads!! For the first time in along time, we have 2 starting White RBs in the NFL. Watching the game against Dallas, Skattebo looked agile, decisive and extremely tough to tackle (PFF high grade confirms the great performance). The coaching staff appears to love him and the announcers were very complimentary of his talents. This is extremely shocking knowing the CS, as I was expecting at least a half season "apprenticeship" before taking over the reigns. Of course the leash for a White RB is very short and one nagging injury (see Hillis, Peyton) or a fumble or two (see Steele, Carson) can land you in the permanent doghouse. We'll all be rooting for Cam to continue to defy the odds and star again like he always has at every level.

The other big offseason move was trading back into the 1st round to select Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. After the Giants pulled the plug on the Daniel Jones experiment half way through last season, the position was influx. Free agent signings of Russell Wilson and Jamies Winston, along with holdover Tommy DeVito lead many to speculate that the Giants would punt on drafting a QB highly this year and go all in next season. Well Schoen and Daboll really liked Dart and have confirmed that he was "their guy" throughout the process. Dart has so far exceeded fan and local media expectation by having an excellent camp and fantastic preseason. So much so that many were calling for him to start week 1 despite the financial investment in Wilson. As I write this, the plan is still to stick with Wilson (who played really well week 2) and give Dart more time to learn from the sideline. With a suspect offensive line and low expectations for the team, I'm fine with this move. Everyone in NYC knows he'll be getting the keys to the car sooner or later and I'm excited to watch him when he does. Regarding DeVito, I thought it was shortsighted that the Giants cut him. He played really well and would have been the perfect backup for Dart next season. I would have traded Winston, who has little value for the G-men as a #3, but at least Tommy landed in a good spot with NE. Let's hope for the best with Dart, as he will need it, considering Daniel Jones as a case study. Early returns from the Colts show that it really was a Giants problem, and not a DJ problem, as a portion of the media and DWFs assumed.

Other White players for the Giants mostly reside on offense. Daniel Bellinger returns as the backup tight end and is an adequate receiver and blocker. Thomas Fidone from Nebraska was a surprise roster survivor. Many assumed the 7th round pick would be a numbers crunch but the Giants elected to keep 4 TEs. Gunner Olszewski had a great camp and preseason and won a spot as backup WR, #1 punt returner and #2 kick returner. He was also a pleasant surprise knowing how these Caste roster battles often go. If he stays healthy, he'll be one of the top return men, having a 65 yard kickoff return on Sunday negated by an off-ball penalty. Let's hope he can catch some passes too. The offensive line returns the same 3 White starters from last year at the Caste appropriate positions. The tackle position for the Giants is reserved for the fellas who can scratch their knees without bending over. Most of the White line depth resides on the practice squad.

On defense the bright spot is Indiana alum Micah McFadden, who has become an established starter as a playmaking tackling machine. Sadly, he was injured in week 1 and will be out for a "significant part of the season". Practice squad linebacker Swayze Bozeman was elevated last week so technically the defense wasn't coal black. Well, in actuality it was since Bozeman was only used as a WSTD.

Many were surprised that Schoen and Daboll survived the offseason, but they are squarely on the hotseat this year needing the team to "show significant improvement" to keep their jobs beyond. After giving away a win, they sit at 0-2. If this continues, they will have to pivot to Dart, but until then its really only Skattebo who is of any interest on this squad.

Yes, excellent write-up.

It's kind of funny to look at the NFL team forums and see the Giants with easily the most posts of any of the 32 teams. But that's only because that's where the prolific Peyton Hillis thread ended up at the end of his career. There's actually been very little interest in the Giants over the years by CFers, much like the Jets. But now with Skattebo that will certainly change.
