The bottom feeder 2025 Saints are in full tank mode this year. Ranked at or near the bottom in all major NFL power rankings, it ain't a good year to be an Aints fan. Completely by coincidence, this team is also very dark, albeit with many White players on the injured list, some promising names on the practice squad, and a few bright spots among the 53-man roster.
Spencer "Looks Rattled" Rattler "won" the QB "competition" over rookie Tyler Shough, who deserves an opportunity and may or may not get one this year. Meanwhile, Jake Haener was unceremoniously cut in the annual White Purge. With ultra-talented, multi-dimensional, and fun to watch Taysom Hill, along with veteran TE Foster Moreau, on the PUP list, this team is a lot less entertaining. However, Hill clone Tommy Mellott was signed to the practice squad; hopefully he gets a call up sooner than later. The Saints also have a White cornerback, Jayden Price, on their PS.
The brightest spots on the Saints' 53-man are on defense, with stud LB Pete Werner leading the way. In Game 1 Werner was in his usual beast mode, leading the defense with 9 tackles (7 solo) and a sack. Stalwart DT Bryan Bresee is also a starter. Super talented rookie LB Danny Stutsman, who fell to the 4th round of the draft due to completely unknown reasons, is listed as a second stringer and was only allowed to play special teams in Game 1, but has a bright future ahead of him and should become a starter by next year.
Overall, however, this remains a heavily coal, bottom feeder team. Head coach Kellen Moore's performance in Game 1 was probably due to genuine ineptness, although look for him to tank hard and often this season with full approval from the higher-ups. This team's goal is clear: Tank this year and rebuild next season around a new #1 draft pick franchise QB.
