Although I was pulling for DeChambeau, I'm happy for McIIroy, but he's not in Tiger's class and certainly not the Goat Jack Nicklaus. Tiger dominated his era like no one, but he had help as no one really stepped up to battle him toe to toe in most cases.
Like Nicklaus, Woods had that killer instinct that Rory and quite frankly most of today's golfers don't have. In my opinion, most of today's golfers are spoiled by money and don't have the will to become a Nicklaus or Woods.
Nicklaus is The Goat and no one will ever touch him. I invite you to go back and look at Jack's history. He had more power and shot make ability than anyone ever, especially with the equipment he had to use. The clubs and particularly the ball is so much better than win Nicklaus played, yet no one has really gotten close to him, except Woods. Tiger came up short. Nicklaus once competed in a long drive contest in like 1969 and drove the ball 341 yards with a persimmon wood with the sweet spot the size of a dime. If Rory competed in the 60's, 70's, 80's he quite possibly wouldn't have any Majors using a persimmon wood and inferior ball. The talent wasn't as deep as it is now, but the quality of those that were at the top were much better.
McIIroy, and Woods would have had to beat the likes of Nicklaus 18 Majors, 19 second place finishes in Majors! Player 9 Majors, Watson 8 majors, Palmer 7 Majors, Trevino, 6 Majors, Seve Ballesteros 5 Majors, Ray Floyd 4 Majors.
When watching the Golf Channel this week they put some stat showing something about the Major winners and grand slams, they didn't even show Nicklaus' 18 Majors, 3 GS's. The started with Tiger's 15 and went down to McIIroy. It's like they've forgotten about the greatest golfer of all time, and it's not really close.
Nickalus finished -5 and a tie for 6th place at the 1998 Masters at 58 years old!
Jack Nicklaus is the Goat and always will be! Talk about clutch putting. Look at this putt. He's like 79 years old here.
