The Bills start 2025 with 8 White starters for their zealous mafia to root for, two more than any previous years going back to 2017 with no write-up in ’19, ’20 and ’21. They also have 18 Whites on the roster, two more than previously during the same time frame.

Discussion about Buffalo always starts and is centered around quarterback Josh Allen, a historic combination of passing and running ability. At 6’ 5” and 237 pounds he still somehow runs like a gazelle with moves.

Now 29 years old and about to begin his eighth season, Allen has been statistically brilliant and consistent. His passing yardage beginning with his rookie season (when he was learning how to harness his great ability, much like some all-time great power pitchers in baseball) through 2024 is 2,074, 3,089, 4,544, 4,407, 4,283, 4,306, and 3,731. His passing TDs by season beginning again with ’18 are 10, 20, 37, 36, 35, 29, and 28.

Add to those gaudy numbers his rushing numbers, again outstanding and consistent. Beginning with 2018, Allen has rushed for 631, 510, 421, 763, 762, 524, and 531 yards, while scoring 8, 9, 8, 6, 7, 15, and 12 touchdowns on the ground.

Allen is the best quarterback in the NFL, heading toward status as one of the very best ever. However, the Bills have been stymied trying to win the AFC, mainly by being blocked by the Chiefs, and getting to the Super Bowl. And as in previous seasons of coming up just short, Buffalo does not have the needed weapons at WR, so once again Josh’s work will be cut out for him if the team is to get over the hump during their prolonged “window of opportunity.”

It'll be interesting to see if starting tight end Dalton Kincaid will make a “third year jump” and justify his first round selection in 2023. Kincaid had a solid rookie year gaining 673 yards, but fell back last year to 448 receiving yards due mostly to injury (a recurring theme among White players on the Bills) and a declining snap count when he was healthy. The presence of backup Dawson Knox as pretty much TE 1B to Kincaid’s 1A also contributed to Kincaid’s modest 2024 output, but Kincaid is the receiving tight end while Knox is better at blocking and more is expected of Dalton in the receiving department. There have been some reports of late that Kincaid will again not receive a heavy snap count, but that could be wishful thinking by the hive mind media and some DWFs. Kincaid dropping an incredible fourth down pass from Allen in last season’s AFC Championship game that if he had snared might have propelled the Bills past the Chiefs and to the Super Bowl has also caused the spotlight of scrutiny to be very much on him in 2025.

The Bills start a 3/5 White offensive line. David Edwards is the left guard, Connor McGovern mans the center position, and Spencer Brown returns at right tackle.

Brown’s backup is Chase Lundt, meaning the Bills have two “short arms” at an important position that has been trending sumo for a number of years. And Ryan VanDemark is the backup left tackle.

Jackson Hawes is the third string tight end. Veteran Mitch Trubisky backs up Allen and is the only other QB on the 53, with Shane Buechele on the practice squad.

Buffalo’s increase in White starters stems from having three of them on defense this year.

The third overall pick out of Ohio State in 2016, Joey Bosa began his NFL career looking like a sure Hall of Famer, but injuries have dimmed his once bright shining star. He has only stayed healthy for three of his nine seasons, and the last three years has started just 18 of a possible 51 games. Now 30, Bosa is still a top pass rusher when healthy and reports indicate the Bills will carefully manage his snaps to try and keep him that way in 2025.

Weakside linebacker Matt Milano’s NFL arc has been virtually a carbon copy of Bosa’s, a very talented player afflicted by the injury bug. Milano has stayed healthy for just two full seasons since being drafted out of Boston College in the fifth round in 2017. A first team All Pro in 2022, Milano has played in just 9 of a possible 34 games the past two years.

Cole Bishop, drafted in the second round in 2024, is the starting strong safety, but his first two seasons have also been marred by recurring injuries. Expected to win the starting job in his second season over Damar Hamlin who is sub-replacement level, Bishop missed valuable experience for the second straight training camp. This has caused the predictable avalanche of criticism from DWFs, the media, and even head coach Sean McDermott. Bishop already had his work cut out for him being a White safety, which seems to be the position DWFs are the most hateful toward when it comes to White defensive players. Bishop has very nice size and is very athletic however, and did win the starting gig after a strong final preseason game performance. Look for him to be another White tackling machine at safety. But as Chuck Noll famously said when asked if the injured and aging L. C. Greenwood was going to make the team, “You can’t make the club in the tub.”

Buffalo native Joe Andreesen is the second string MLB and is the only other White defensive player on the roster. DE Michael Hoecht is another but is currently on IR.

Whites are sparse on the practice squad but overall this one of the least onerous NFL teams, an annual favorite of many CFers. Maybe this will be the season Josh Allen pulls the rest of the team over the finish line and wins the Super Bowl.

Great write up! Really hoping this is the Bills year to win the AFC and make the Super Bowl. The Bills will be tested right away with the game tonight with Baltimore coming to town.

One note on Michael Hoecht. He's not hurt, he's suspended for 6 games (illegal substance). So its go he's healthy and ready to hit the ground running in week 7. I also just learned he's Canadian, from south of Toronto. So like Andreesen, he's a "local" guy who's happy and proud to play for Buffalo.

Really nice in-depth writeup. I'll be rooting for the "BiLLLLs" to finally put that nickname away for good.
