The Aggies move to the SEC with a black head coach in Kevin Sumlin and without QB Ryan Tannehill. White WR Ryan Swope returns and will hopefully have a great Senior season. The Matthews/Joeckel tandem remains intact and hopefully another White will end up starting on the offensive line before the season is over.

Some Whites who may get playing time include LG Shep Klinke, LT Nathan Gutekunst, C Ben Compton, RT Joseph Cheek, RG Allen Woodum, DE Caleb Russell, LB Kyle Mangan and SS Clay Honeycutt. Since '05, A&M started 8, 9, 8, 7, 9, 10 and 8 Whites. Looks like they are making the right moves in trying to fit in with the ultra-caste, anti-white SEC demographics.

Jameill Showers was the favorite to win the QB...however ultra=athletic freshman Johnny Manziel won the job....in his 1st career start he has the affletic Florida defense head's spinning...they were not expecting his dual-threat ability!

Was tuning in to see Swope...and Manziel is playing lights out so far!

Johnny Manziel made 'meteoric rise' in recent weeks to earn A&M's starting QB gig

From the minute Ryan Tannehill was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in April, Jameill Showers had been the leader in clubhouse to earn Texas A&M's starting quarterback job.

Showers impressed throughout spring drills. He stayed out of trouble, while his immediate rival, freshman Johnny Manziel, was arrested over the summer. Even his own teammate, RB Ben Malena, told reporters he'd do "whatever it takes to not get No. 3 hit" a few weeks ago, referring to Showers' jersey number.

So how, then, did Manziel earn the job when coach Kevin Sumlin announced his quarterback Wednesday? With a "meteoric rise" over the course of the Aggies' fall camp, writes San Antonio Express-News reporter Brent Zwerneman.
"The incredibly athletic quarterback went from doing what was needed to cling to his roster spot, to earning the starting gig over Showers in the span of two weeks," Zwerneman wrote. "...After redshirting last season, he was erratic in this past spring’s annual Maroon & White game, however, completing 13 of 27 passes for 154 yards (with 63 of those coming on one play, a touchdown to Ryan Swope). But outside of his legal trouble, Manziel made plenty of progress in the offseason, and put himself into position to upend Showers for the top spot in the Aggies’ first year in the Southeastern Conference."

But Manziel's status atop A&M's depth chart seems far from solid. In the press release announcing his decision, Sumlin said that he expects his other quarterbacks to "conntinue to push Johnny," referring to Showers and sophomore Matt Joeckel.
Sumlin also acknowledged just how little experience his crop of QBs collectively have, and he's planning an open scrimmage at Kyle Field this weekend to give his young signal callers another opportunity to practice at game speed.

“We’ll get back in the stadium,â€￾ Sumlin told Zwerneman. “The guys need to play a little bit more.â€￾
