Beason going on IR should finally open up the middle linebacking job for superstar in the making Luke Kuechly.

Panthers placed MLB Jon Beason on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.

He needs knee and shoulder surgeries. Signed to a six-year, $51.338 million extension in July 2011, Beason will finish 2011-12 having appeared in just five games. Still only 27, Beason should be ready for camp next summer, but coming off Achilles and knee injuries, it's quite possible he'll never be the same after making three consecutive Pro Bowls between 2008-10.

Looks like we'll have another White safety starting this week.

Panthers S Haruki Nakamura is out for the season after aggravating his groin injury in Week 14.

He was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. With Sherrod Martin's (knee) season over and Charles Godfrey battling a back injury, the Panthers finished last week's game with D.J. Campbell and Colin Jones at safety. They will have to sign a street free agent for depth. Nakamura was exposed as a subpar starter in his first year with the Panthers. Look for the team to upgrade the position in 2013.

typical...how do they know that Colin Jones won't be an upgrade at the position? From what I remember he was pretty damn good at TCU, and just read that he ran a 4.34 at his pro day. Perhaps all he needs is a shot to prove himself.
