Against that quality field I'm pretty happy where he was. You're right about Simbine, Texas Flash, Freedom 1. He is in a class above everyone at present - after years of "nearly there but not quite". Intestingly Kennedy was again as in world indoors 1/100th behind 3rd placed Azu. Nothing in it...

I know it does appear weird to those unaccustomed to this type of racing. It really started in little country towns 150+ years ago. Pub talk "our boy can beat your boy". Then imagine the scenes - the bookmakers got into it "he couldn't win it if (so and so) had 2 metres start'....... then...

    Forgotten White Athletes?

yes, the injuries started coming, the studies at Uni took much of his time (I sometimes spoke to his dad who owned a pharmacy up near my work place) and I think he fitted enough training time and effort in to be a good relay team member.

    Forgotten White Athletes?

He started getting injuries, starting by working really hard (too hard perhaps?) for the Commonwealth Games in Auckland 2 months later. He ran OK in the final there but not at the level shown here. As so often with our guys, University studies took a lot of his time too so he started to...

    Forgotten White Athletes?

38 flat ... yes, but in those days it was hard to get around to chase those electronic times. You had to run a lot to get the opportunities to run fast times and we are too far distant. Marsh was also a beautiful mover .... 2 weeks after this run he won the Monaco 100 beating Christie, Bailey...

    Forgotten White Athletes?

I had the pleasure of being there that day. Light rain and a blustery wind (the track is very close to the coast) which gave us that +4.2 wind in the final. What a shame because 20 year old Tim really looked our first sub 10 possibility here in 1989. Beautiful sprinter! They had him kicking...

Stawell Gift (120metre) semis and finals are on here today. Gout Gout and Lachie Kennedy are on a different planet to most the others in the field - make them look like plodders. Jake Despard and Jack Hale are running well too so could be a great final. The races will show the professionals just...

Calab is 21 and getting stronger. He is also very "chill" and loves his racing and his relay mates. So up till now he's concentrated on the 200m but as his start improves I'm convinced 10.10 is around the corner. Jack Hale and Jacob Despard (both lanes closest to camera) are both from the...

fantastic final - a pity Seb Sultana had to withdraw as he just pulled his calf a little in the final 5 metres of his semi. He would have easily picked up Bronze - but old man Browning is back after 2 years of injury. He equalled his Tokyo time so he's not finished yet Jack Hale has a bit to go...

the final will be these guys. They mostly seemed to hold a little in reserve for the final which is only 1 1/2 hours later. The most impressive to me today was Jack Hale who missed the start and flew home in the manner he used to. He easily passed 2 guys between 85m and the finish line. The...

here's an article form the Sydney Morning Herald. They are coached by the same coach and training partners - yet fascinating how different their body types are. Which proves there's no set body type needed to be really fast on the world stage. Kennedy has recently upped his quarter sqats to...
