Anyone here know anything about Epigenetics?

I have just started reading about this topic and thought it may interest some of you here. Here is my take (it is not too complicated): In the last decade research has shown that "our genes are not our destiny" and that additional layers of complexity exist in our genome that can control the...

Any member who wants to help

I don't know whether this helps but Don W posted it on the CF Home page about a year ago. Sorry it is so long. Informal internet polls show a significant majority of the general public believe Black athletes have natural advantages over White athletes. More importantly this viewpoint is...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

The concept of Basic Time is flawed because it does not take into account the air temperature, the humidity, and the track surface condition and temperature; and only partially addresses wind (one reading, at one time, in one direction). Comparison to competitor's season bests is a better...

I really wouldn't get too excited about this research paper. It is based upon "correlations"; and as science has repeatedly found a correlation may have nothing to do with cause and effect. And if Lemaitre was one of the subjects in the study then it tells us even less about his unique abilities.

WL get over to Eastern France and help out. I agree with all you have said.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Only 10 people have run both the 100m and the 200m faster than Lemaitre in their entire careers. He did his best times in the same year and at the young age of 21. Likely only two or three can claim that. All with a "natural" physique - he is very special.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

I have not seen a video of CL this year but last year at the "set" command his head always moved backwards. This, IMO, is incorrect; none of the other elites do this. I used to coach moving the head and shoulders forward with a heavy load on the arms. So I too am worried about his coach (also...

The average so far is 9.86 / 19.68 so I will go with that - but I think it is optimistic for both to be achieved in one year.

    Is Bolt on Drugs?

The logic that Lemaitre's performances must be compared to the historical performance of White sprinters is utterly flawed. It is predicated upon the assumption that Whites are somehow biologically inferior. Whereas all of the data seems to point to social or cultural differences. It is...

BK21: the reason you think that Bolt false started on purpose is that every sprinter knows that once you have false started you play it cool. The hope being that someone else twitched, also started too soon and that it will be judged to be a faulty start. If you look at the replay CL was close...

Unfortunately others keep breaking their BPs. Richard Thompson, who all year had not troubled the top three steps of the podium at any meet and had failed to even break 10 seconds, today did a 9.85 - a time 0.21 faster than the average of his previous year's top five. Christophe's top five...

Adjusting Blake's 9.80 at +2.2m/s wind in the recent race in Kingston, to today's +0.9 wind,Blake would have run 9.88 in Kingston (today: 9.95). So compared to Blake CL may have run 9.89 in Kingston with a +0.9 wind, or a 9.81 with a +2.2 wind. He is certainly on track for a good season. I think...

Let's hope so; but wind, humidity and temperature means an outdoor time is not totally comparable to an indoor time.

    a bit of history

There is a similarity here to the 800m of the early 1980's. The top White 800m runners 30 years ago were significantly faster than the top white athletes of today (3 into the 42's from one country). Even Borzakovskiy and Bucher rantheirtop times 10 years ago. What is interesting is that...

An analysis of the Rome 100m race showed that CL took 42 strides, UB took 41 1/4 and AP about 44+ (not easy to be precise because of camera changes and his feet not always shown). CL lost nearly 1/2 stride to UB in the first 15m and at the end his stride length was equal to UB's; and CL's last...

From 30 to 100m i think CL actually gained on Powell - the third fastest man ever who has run 9.85 or better over 20 times.
