I think Cerutti will get it first, but Lemaitre, Blum, and Pickering will eventually break it.

I have to vote for the man that started this new revolution of young white sprinters. He has struggled as of late but he will still get there first. Money in the bank!

Cerutti probably 2nd with the german stud Blum to acheive it 3rd. The crazy thing is that in the long run, Christian Blum might run faster than anyone of these guys other than possibly Lemaitre.

I believe CP has got what it takes to break 10 and I bet it will happen next year when there is no Olympic or world champ pressure. he needs a simple season to drop a great time and then build on that for the next world champs and Olympics. I think summer of 2010 he will crack 10. I'm guessing at a 9.98. once he does that, you will see a real big surge in white sprinters, maybe even get some white Americans in the mix. then soon after you will see Lemaitre and Blum follow in CP footsteps. hopefully by 2012 most of the dopers are caught and CP can have a shot at Gold.

Good posts guys. I voted for Cerutti because the question was who will break 10 first. Pickering is so close, but I settled on Cerutti because he is doing well now and I knew WL would vote for Pickering. I admit I too have a man crush on him.

If the question was who will be the fastest, then I think I would choose Lemaitre or Blum.

2012 Olympic Hopes

1. Craig Pickering
2. Fabio Cerutti (choked in Beijing)
3. Christian Blum
4. Christophe lemaitre

Let's just say that I have some inside info on Craig. I'm not going to reveal my sources but he will make me look like a fortune teller before too long.

Pickering is like a fighter that refuses to ever give up. He has far too much pride to except anything less than the best. I just wish someone would help fix his form while he is still young. I see high 9.80's ability if he can get his body mechanics worked out.

Again I state, watch a guy like Christian Blum run and then watch a tape of Craig. It's like watching a greyhound run versus a bulldog. Craig can fly but he would have already went sub 10 a couple of times at least if he ran more smoothly. Trust me on this. I know!

Any one of those guys can and have the capability to break the 10 second barrier. It's just a question of when, if the conditions are just right for them, both mentally, and physically. They can they will eventually.

My best bets are Christian Blum, and Craig Pickering. Craig, because of his powerful stride, and Blum, because of his natural grace and stride, add more power to it, and he will zoom, zoom, and zoom. Any one these guys can zoom past 10 seconds, it's all a matter if things just go perfect for them.

If they only had gone perfect for Shirvo! 10.03 at 19 into a headwind. I hate talking about that, it could have been a 9.95. Cerutti runs very well in Italy. Craig runs best versus good sprinters. After that a 1.5 or 2 m/s tailwind, a good start, and a warm day could bring either a sub 10 this year.

Blum and Lemaitre just need to stay alive and remember to breathe and they'll get it soon. I'm so happy the Olympics are in London for Craig!!!

One more guy to include is Michael LeBlanc. This guy has all the tools when he is healthy. He should be putting up some solid times later this year. His indoor season wasn't too bad after missing a whole year of track.

Leblanc is definitely there with Connaughton. This year he can get mid to low 10.1s if he trains hard. The more good white sprinters the better.

I would have said Pickering last year, but Cerutti looks really good this year. I think Lemaitre will be the fastest of all these guys when it's said and done though. To run a 10.26 at 18 years old is just fabulous. Blum looks like he needs to get stronger first if he is going to break 10 flat. I'm not overly confident on Blum at this point.

Welcome back TJR. I hope you stick around a while. We all have high hopes for Lamitre in the next several years but Blum is closer than him at the moment.

Pickering didn't look very good indoors if I say so myself. He will be back. I have a feeling. This is it for the coach. Fix it or don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Thanks for the welcome back WL. I agree Blum is indeed talented, but for some reason I'm not confident he'll go sub-10. I see him topping out in the 10.0x range.

Fascinating! I had heard of this 10.03 time, but did not know that it had ever been ratified. That would have been an "adjusted world record" for nine years until Frankie Fredericks' adjusted run in 1996.
Here's a listing of 1980's-era runners for comparison's sake:

If he does it were all going to a BBQ at your house and nobody forget the spritzer.

Haha I don't even know what spritzer is, I assume it's sparkling white wine.
