Yes Yes Yes....we all knew it would happen..but who the hell would have thought it would of had to take this long? Tom Cable grew a small pair of nuts an benched Russell for Gradkowski in a press conference. knowing the nature of the beast he will most likely get a second chance at another team in the years to come however, i can't stop to wonder how Jeff Garcia is feeling like making a telephone call right now to rub it in....Talent or no talent around him...with Garcia the Raiders are a five win team.

"Duhmarcus" Russell takes his rightful place on the pine (in lieu of his rightful place back in the ghetto

Jamarcus still has his undeserved tens of millions and so he can ride that bench quite happily for now.

I agree, I think Jamarcus is simply riding the wave of his exorbitant signing bonus and salary for this year. He knows he's a bust, and is simply going through the motions until he is finally dispatched out of the NFL. I have seen this type of behavior first hand from teammates throughout the years.

So Cal
DaMarcus has to be the quinessential bust of all time! Based on the 35 milllion he has already recieved. Its astonding that the Raidas would give an unproven rookie that kind of dough. Oh well live and learn....Al Davis big dummy!!!

I'll have to the buck the consensus here (which I'm loath to do, as I'm a lifelong Charger fan, meaning I hate the Raiders and Al Davis as a matter of course - well, I did until they sank to the point that the Bolts have beaten the Silver And Black 13 consecutive times), but the benchmark of QB busts remains Ryan Leaf. Russell is clearly a dud, and a waste of a No. 1 pick and the money that went along with it, but from all accounts (even Garcia's) he hasn't wrecked the Raiders as badly as Leaf wrecked the Chargers. There have been many first round QB picks that have flopped - few as badly as Russell, true - but Leaf was an unmitigated disaster on the field, and an even worse disaster off the field. In fact, Leaf's debacle raised numerous red flags about Russell that anyone other than Al Davis would have heeded. Like Leaf, Russell only had one big season in college, both on very good teams, and both seemed to have little going for them other than big arms. I'd have to go go back and look, but I don't recall Russell being considered a can't miss prospect, unlike Leaf, who was universally considered the equal of Peyton Manning coming out of college (if ever anyone needed evidence that scouting is at least as much art and guesswork as science that would surely be sufficient.) The one good thing about Leaf was that the Chargers were so burnt by it, that they spurned Vick for Tomlinson (a move for which they were heavily criticized for at the time) and drafted only QBs with proven collegiate records (Brees, Rivers, even Charlie Whithurst). Once burnt, and all that. I doubt if Ancient Al will learn the same lesson from Russell.

True enough, just look at this year's number one pick for the Raiduhs, Darrius Heyward-Bey, who is so raw, that I doubt he'll ever be anything but a "fast guy". Maybe he can return kicks and be like Ted Ginn, a fast guy who can't catch. If my son ever tried to catch a ball like Heyward-Bey does, he'd be running gassers for an hour.

Akili Smith also had just one good year in college and was a huge bust in the NFL. There was also a question about his Wonderlic score, as he had the typical low scores for black prospects mixed in with one very high score.

Yeah LOL! a lot of those black Wonderlic scores leave me chuckling. I can understand a little bit of fatigue messing up ones concentration and then being able to improve a little bit once you understand what the test is all about, but some of the black players score so low that it is pretty obvious they have severe trouble with basic reading comprehension and are probably functionally illiterate. Then they get the one score that improves dramatically, almost magically, often three or four times their other scores. NO WAY, NOT POSSIBLE, unless the results are not on the up and up. It reminds of one of the history teachers at my high school who just also happened to be one of the football coaches and usually got most of the football players who wanted to goof off or were stupid. There were a lot of rumors going around that he gave answers to players during tests. It is funny how all of the students seemed to know about it, but faculty were "apparently" none the wiser.
