Tobias Unger is by far Germany's best sprinter of the
moment. He qualified for the finals in the 200 at Athens
and is the German record holder in the deuce. He ran a
20.58 to qualify for the World Championships today in
his very first 200 race of the year!Incredible time.On
top of that, yesterday he won the 100 at a meet in
Germany in a time of 10.11.It was wind aided but he has
all the tools to be the man to watch in Germany.Hopefully
he will push Sebastian Ernst,Till Helmke and Tim Goebel
to improve their times.Keep it up Tobias!

Well today Tobias does it again. He continues to get
faster with every race.He ran a 20.46 today to finish
2nd by only 1/100th of a second. This kid just might be
able to crack the 20 second barrier in another year or
so if he continues to progress at his current pace.He
is making it look easy as his running style is so smooth.
Ivet Lalova won the 200 only a week after winning a 100
race in a time of 11.07.She is in fine form.Tim Benjamin
is back racing again. He won the 400 meters in at time
of 45.06.He should be running in the high 44 second
range soon.Overall it was a great meet.Tobias is really
getting them excited in Germany.Good job to him.

Tobias continues to amaze. In the Euro Cup 200 Meters
Final he took the silver medal after getting off to a
bad start.Running into a -0.6 wind,he still set another
New German Record with a 20.36 for 2nd place. This kid
is automatic now.He runs faster everytime out.I can
see him challenging a sub 20 by next year with the way
he is progressing.Outstanding performance despite not
winning for a change.Keep it up Unger!

With Ungers incredible speed,I would love to see him run
alot more 100 meters races.I'm guessing that he would
have to be the best 100 guy in Germany right now too
and he doesn't run that even that much.I know the 200
has brought him fame, but he should really consider
running alot more 100 meter races.Maybe next year he
could double on a regular basis.Good luck to him.

Today at the German Championships was the one of the
most incredible performances in German Sprinting
History.Tobias Unger pulled off the sprint doube and
set a New German Nat'l Record in the process! He ran a
20.20 wind legal to break a ages old record by Frank
Emmelmann. He is so close to a sub 20 in the 200.Not
only that but he ran a 10.16 to win the 100 meters
title too.He is as hungry as they come. This guy is
flat out amazing! He just might run a sub 10 and a
sub 20 soon.Tobias Unger just keeps on shocking anyone
and everyone! This kid is amazing. He is the best thing
to happen to German Sprinting since Armin Harry. He just
might suprise some people in August at the World
Championships.Go Tobias.Here is a link.

I am still really pumped up about Ungers performance.
The funny thing is that most of the track sites are not
even talking about it.A 10.16 and a 20.20 back to back.
Breaking the German 200 Meters National Record. This kid
just seems to improve every year.He is still only 25 so
he has some good upside left.If he could break 10 seconds
in the 100 and 20 seconds in the 200,he will be the best
white sprinter that has ever lived. He would eclipse guys
like Borzov.Again,a huge congrats to Tobias Unger!Keep
up the great work and shock the world!

Tobias does it again today in Germany. He won a race in a
incredible time of 20.24.The wind was nothing at 0.1!He
had no competetion and won by around 10 meters. If he was
pushed he could have went alot faster.Tobias did the right
thing by shutting down a little. This kid is a possible
medal threat at the World Championships.I know he will have
to run faster but I think he can do it.Unger is a very
firery competetor.Do now count him out!!He just might
come close to a sub 20 in Helsinki.I can't wait.

Tommorow just might be a magical day. There are now 49
sprinters who have gone sub 10 in the 100 meters. On
Monday,July 25,2005 we might just see another.Tobias
Unger is a very fine 200 meters sprinter but he runs the
100 as good as any other white sprinter out there! He is
in a race in Helsinki,Finland tommorow with around 3 or
4 guys who are capable of a sub 10.He doesn't usually have
this kind of competition over that distance. With a perfect
race, and good conditions,he just might become the 50th
guy to break that magical barrier.I think he will at least
come very close if all goes right.Good luck to Unger!I'm
hoping for a 9.99 and he will make history.

They divided the sprinters into 2 different races.Again
Unger was unchallenged but he won is a average time of
10.30.He beat Wallace Spearmon who has run 3 sub 20's this
summer.I wanted Unger to be in the "A Race" where the
winner ran a 10.01.He needs to be pushed by better
competition. They put him in a race that he shouldn't have
been in.Put him in with the big boys.He is just about
ready to pull off a huge time.Tobias like most sprinters
needs to be pushed.Good luck to him at the Worlds.

Sorry about that link.I don't know what happened.Anyways,
good news and bad news about Unger. The bad news is that
he has pulled out of the 100 meters at the World Champs.
The good news is that this gives him an excellent shot at
making the 200 final and possibly medaling. He is also
running in the German 4 x 100 Relay Team.I fully expect
another new p.b. from Unger in either the semi/finals or
in the finals.I really hope he can challenge the 20 second
barrier.

There were supposed to be 2 opening rounds of th2 200
meters but the rains came after the first round.Tobias
Unger advanced easily to the second round winning his
heat in a time of 20.45.Most of the other guys we like
also advanced.S.Ernst,Gus,Jedrunski,& some others.In the
400 there was only 1 round too.Wariner,Rock,Benjamin and
many others all advanced. So far so good for all of these
guys.I do think how ever that Unger & some others will
now be at a disadvantage. They will have to basically run
2 personal bests or close in the same day to advance to
the finals of the 200.They could have only had to run one
today & rest to run one more tommorow. The weather didn't
cooperate.Anyways, good luck to all of them.

As we know now,Tobias made the 200 Meters Finals at the
World Championships but only finished in 7th place. What
people don't realize is that he led the race out of a
horrible lane 2 for 120-130 of the 200 meters.Yes he was
ahead of Gatlin,Spearmon,Gay and Capel.He just didn't
seem to have what it took to withstand that pace. The good
thing is that he now knows what kind of pace in necessary
to run a sub 20 in the deuce.He ran a p.b. of 20.20 just
2-3 weeks before the Champs.Tobias had a good year setting
the German Nat'l Record and running multiple races between
20.20 to 20.40 range. He is almost there.I hope he can run
a few more races this season and then get some rest.Tobias
is very close to where he needs to be.He should hold his
head high and be proud of how far he has come. The best
is still yet to come.

After taking a few weeks off,Unger will be racing in front of his home crowd in one of the last huge meets this season in Berlin. He will be in both the 100 & the 200 meters.I hope that he can drop some huge times in Germany if the weather permits.Despite him not medaling at the World Championships,he has had the season of his life breakin the
Indoor & Outdoor German Records in the 200 meters. He also has run a faster 100 than any other white sprinter all year long.He just might drop a really quick time in front of the fans and put on a show.I hope so.After this his is on to race the 200 in the world cup because he is one of the top 8 in his event in the whole world.Go Tobias Unger!!

Here we go with a new season and the news is that Tobias is in very good shape. He will have his first indoor competition at the German Championships this weekend. He will compete over the 60 and 200 meters.Tobias will attempt to become the first white sprinter to go sub 10 and sub 20.He believes that he has a good chance.I wouldn't rule it out with his incredible progress he has made in the last two years!I would guess that he needs to be in the 6.50-6.58 range to get into the 20 second range in the deuce.I hope he can inspire other German Sprinters like Till Helmke & Sebastian Ernst. They need to get the track program back to where it used to be.Good luck to Unger this weekend!

Tobias started the season off with winning both the 60 and the 200 meters.Marius Broenieg finished in 2nd in the 60 meters. He will race again next weekend.T.Unger badly wants to medal in the Indoor World Championships coming up in a couple of months. He is on the right track so far.

Tobias has just completed his warm weather training. This could be another break through year for him as he feels that he is in the best shape of his life.Unger broke through with a German National Record of 20.20 in the 200 meters last season. He is just on the verge of competiting with the highest caliber of competition.I just wish some of the other sprinters like T.Helmke and S.Ernst would step up their careers.Unger needs to be pushed and his countrymen are not up to the challenge as of right now.Hopefully,he can lead by example.I would love for him to go sub 20 this summer. He needs to show that he will have one last chance at a major medal in 2008.I wish him the best of luck!

For him to pop a sub 20 he needs to be able to run a consistent 10.1 and the occasional 10.0X. I'm not saying he isn't capable of it but it would be a new barrier for him to break..........

Maybe but look at M.Urbas who only did it once and I know he is not a 10.1 guy.I almost think that Unger would be better off to just focus on the 100.The 200 takes so much speed endurance and he will be 27 soon. He's not too old yet but I see sub 10 potential.Kenteris has the same potential but he would only run about one 100 meters race a season. His p.b. in the 100 was just about where Unger is.Kenteris and Unger make runing a sub 10.20 look easy. They could get over the hump if they just specifically trained for the 100.Think of the money and fame for being the first white to go sub 10!

Urbas seemed to have pulled that sub 20 out of thin air(if that is possible). I don't recall him ever running at that level again(placement or time wise). I remember at that meet guys ran blistering times in the 200 and 100. Unger is much better runner overall than Urbas was.
