Recruiting '10: Early Look-ins

It's a major hassle to try to evaluate all the recruiting classes in one rush in February.
I figured I'd take a cross-section of the recruiting landscape as it stands in mid-December, just so we can see any emerging trends. I planned to start with one school from every BCS conference today and maybe continue that pace until all the BCS conferences are complete. I've only done three schools right now. I'll do the other three later this afternoon. Schools chosen at random from the BCS conferences.

*="external commit" means that the school offered the player a scholarship, but the player has committed to another school.

RW, thanks for the info. May these programs recruiting that huge amount of "affletes" (vs. White players) have terrible seasons to come.

Mark this date on your calendar. This will be the only time in history that Ron Zook has more incoming white players than black players (I'm sure it will change before Christmas).

Note: The "offers to black players" stat also includes other dark minorities. I just didn't feel like typing out "non-white" every time instead of black.

Note: Jack Lambert also plans to post some school breakdowns. I have no other schools picked out right now. So if anybody else wants to do this, just pick a school and look up the offers. Scout.com is the best resource.

Great work, Riddlewire! Very interesting stuff. I remember there being statewide discussion of the New Miss signees of 2003. There was just one white in the initial class. That was part of the straw that broke the camel's back for me being a fan.

Riddlewire, great job on this. Depressing news about all of these teams. Still, if you look at current depth charts of some semi-white teams like Texas, Penn State, or Oregon State for example and look at their recruiting of three or four years ago (when most of their current starters would have been recruited) I bet you would see a significantly smaller percentage of whites recruited then are currently starting. At least I think this is the case, because of white players tenacity in sticking with the program and white walk-ons gradually rising to the top. Edited by: referendum

This shows NCAA college football for what it is, a way for colleges to meet their black student quotas. Since there are just not alot of blacks who meet academic standards for entrance into most universities, they meet their magic number or percent through the athletics programs. They have to give the blacks the scholarships too because they sure wouldn't be able to afford the tuition otherwise.

I don't see this racist system changing anytime soon. Well maybe if blacks become smarter and whites dumber over time.........nah, unlikely.

Here is one for Boston College. I'll update my post when I get the other schools I plan to do for today done. It seems BC should get back to playing whites at WR and S under Frank Spaziani.

. That is sickening. Out of the BCS schools we have previewed so far, only BC is even remotely fair to white players.

Well, to me this is kind of like starting the White starter team previews with the SEC. It paints an overly bleak picture. Still, these are sad numbers.

I was picking schools at random from the Big Six conferences, not cherry-picking the most caste schools.
Let's take a look at some "white friendly" schools from BCS conferences.

VANDERBILT
48 total scholarship offers
29 total commits, 28 undecided
19 offers to white players, 29 offers to black players
10 white commits, 9 undecided
10 black commits, 20 undecided
White commit positions: 1FB 3OL 4DL 1QB 1WR

IOWA
33 total scholarship offers
20 total commits, 11 undecided, 2 external
15 offers to white players, 18 offers to black players
11 white commits, 3 undecided, 1 external
9 black commits, 8 undecided, 1 external
White commit positions: 3LB 2OL 1TE 2QB 3DE
(The most white commits they can end up with is 14. The most black commits they can end up with is 17. I'd call this a disappointing class for Iowa. Especially since they didn't offer a single white RB or WR.)

STANFORD
*There was a problem in compiling results for Stanford. Scout's page for them has a busted 'arrange' button, so I couldn't order the whole list of prospects according to offers. In fact, it wouldn't even let me advance to the second page. Rivals' database is junk. It lists 226 scholarship offers by Stanford. The best I could do was pull up the total commits. This problem should be fixed soon.
24 total commits
12 white commits

I didn't say you did that Riddlewire. Dang it man! Before I posted that I read in your first post where you said you randomly chose the schools. The random schools that you did seemed to me to have the same effect as if they had been picked, as the numbers were pretty bad. That's all I said. Sheesh!

Washington State's Offer Bar wasn't working. I'll update it when it is fixed. Rival's database is horrible.

I'm well aware of ultra-black programs like Cal and West Virginia (and I foresaw Texas Tech going darker), but in general I would say that these "offer lists" are flawed.

There's no way, for example, that Michigan State has ONLY 2 "outstanding offers" to undecided Whites. It doesn't really add up (Even Poly-crazy Hawai'i has at least 2 offers to undecided Whites). Now, that doesn't mean that I know how many Whites will be in their (Spartans) final class; Whites will choose whatever program that they choose.

As we know, there are still excellent White athletes that aren't in the Rivals or Scout database, and yes, they can still get offers from the Big 10 conference but we just wouldn't know about it. Also, the Scout database is often slow to update the profiles and offer-sheets of White athletes.

Even the so-called "White-friendly" teams rarely bring in a majority White class. It's almost always pretty much exactly half-White and half-black. That's unfortunate, of course, but that's what I've noticed.

Then you have a stud like Blake Barker - who I guess would be an external commit - who chose Harvard over several big-time programs. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Blake-Barker-89866

Hell yeah, there's a Caste System and several PATHETICALLY-BLACK programs, but there's still quite a plethora of uncommitted Whites that are going to end-up in the Big 10 or MAC (i'm focusing on the Midwest and how there should be some good White additions before signing day).

I would say that Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan State being a little better to Whites' is being offset by Illinois and Minnesota's blackness (since the Michigan Wolverines have been DARK for ages already). The "Whiter" teams' are likely going to continue to kick ass in the Big 10...

And, yeah, the PAC 10 is one of the most White-friendly conferences in basketball, but it's absolutely disgusting in football.

...

Well, you answered your own question. Or, rather, addressed your own concerns.
Most CF members are quite familiar with the recruiting services and their databases. We all know how they work and the differences between the players they list and the actual prospect lists of any given school. I just assumed it was understood that this thread is an estimation based on "best available information" for each school. Of course it's not the exact list of each school at this very moment. We'd have to visit fan forums for every single school in order to get as close as possible to the complete list of players. But, even then, sometimes scholarship offers aren't known until several days after they've been made. But, if we know for sure that a school has made scholarship offers to 40 black players, then it's virtually an impossibility that they've made offers to any more than 20 white players. So these lists still have value. You just have to read them in the proper context.

Here's Mississippi State. I'd never have thought that Dan Mullen was going more black than Saint Croom ever did. Out of the 15 commits, NOT ONE OF THEM IS WHITE. Although a white tackle may join the class later. Mullen continues Miss State's hard-nosed recruiting and pandering of black affletes.
