Kelly Pavlik vs. Jermain Taylor

I don't think Taylor is a racist, just a kid who barely was able to complete high school, moreover, just "ignent"! Regarding Pavlik, I am really hyped. Saturday will be an opportunity for a white man to shatter the lingering myth of American male mediocrity in major sports on the world stage. He appears to be the real thing based on his last two fights. He destroyed black slugger Edison Miranda with relative ease. Taylor doesn't have any power close to Miranda. The keys to this fight are conditioning and volume of punching, which I believe Pavlik to possess. If his power is on par with his conditioning, I see him winning on a TKO in the 9th or 10th. I wonder if he realizes what is riding on his shoulders? I am just hoping he wins.

Pavlik's biggest edge is mental. He knows who he is as a fighter, what he wants to do, and is confident he can do it. Taylor says he doesn't "see it" and I believe him. A lot of things probably get by Jermain.

This fight will be a contrast in styles and mentalities. Kelly's superior mind and will should be the difference as he steadily imposes his will and a confused Taylor forgets his game plan (again) and runs into a big right hand.

Pavlik should be able to wear Taylor down. I see Taylor winning the first three, or four rounds. However as the fights wears on I see Pavlik getting stronger, and Taylor starting to slow. (which he does in all of his fights that I have seen)When this happens it is only a matter of time before the boom gets lowered. Hopefully it is a nasty knockout. The kind of knockout that will be replayed on sportscenter 20x's. Taylor does not seem to be to bad of a guy. However, Pavlik is one of ours, and Taylor is not. Go Pavlik!!!!!!!!!!

Kelly Pavlik is of 1/4 Slovakian, 1/4 Irish, 1/4 German and 1/4 Scandinavian heritage - his bloodline and name "Pavlik" is Slovakian.

I'm Slovakian myself and I want Pavlik to knock out this guy. The special on HBO hyping the fight is pretty good. Kelly Pavlik is a really humble guy who loves his family. He is very confident and I believe that this midwest kid will win big tonight. Go Pavlik!

Lot of late money coming in on Taylor, and some writers are edging toward him, based I think on his quality of opposition. I would like to see more top names on Pavlik's resume.

Both fighters will be venturing into the unknown. Pavlik's never fought anyone as fast and skilled as Taylor, while Jermain has never faced anyone with Kelly's size and power.

Some Yo-Yo compared this to Holmes-Cooney, and predicted the same result. There are surface similarities, but the truth is, Cooney never had near the chin and fighting spirit that Kelly has, plus Kelly has power in both hands, not just a big left hook. On his part, Taylor never has shown near the smarts that Holmes had in ring.

So Pavlik should prevail mentally, as long as he has answer for Taylor's speed, and just enough speed himself to be on target with his big guns.

Steve Smoger will be the referee for the fight. The judges will be Guido Cavalleri, Glenn Feldman and Julie Lederman. Because the latter two judges will favor Taylor, it will be almost impossible for Pavlik to win a decision. But I don't think it will go to the scorecards - Pavlik will win by KO.

I'm STILL pissed over Gerry Cooney. He SHOULD have been the champ. When he fought Holmes he had only fought two rounds in two years and he was very rusty, and then he altered his winning fight plan, and instead of coming out and winging the usual Cooney bombs he elected to box Holmes until he became exhausted in the extreme heat.

In NYC at the time there was a Black man with a prime time radio sports show, Art Rust Jr., and his sports show was unusual because he talked about boxing a lot, and he was a big Cooney fan. He was very disappointed, too.
