Here's some interesting info. I just found what Woodhead is earning this year:
Woodhead's Contract
Apparently all they've given him is a one year deal. But he got a $90,588 signing bonus and will earn $297,765 on the year. If cut, he only gets to keep the part of his salary for the weeks he is on the active roster, out of the 12 weeks he signed for, plus his signing bonus.

It must be tough to play your heart out for years as an undervalued white player and risk injury- in an expensive house market- on the practice squad. You could be putting a degree to use and working your way up in a company to a good pension and job security. It also must be aggravating for guys like Mike Hass and Kevin Kasper to use their maximum years on a practice squad, to continue to be blacklisted from active rosters for inferior black skill players.

Dierdorf is unquestionably one of the most obnoxious of all the jock sniffer announcers. He also has that lifetime bully look about him- you can just picture this jerk stuffing nerds in lockers.
As for Marcellus Wiley, how was he ever admitted to Columbia University? Unless I'm mistaken, this is supposed to be a pretty prestigious college, with a less than stellar athletic program. There is no way this ebonics specialist could possibly have met the entrance requirements legitimately.
I certainly hope they give Woodhead a chance, but as usual I'm not optimistic. The Jets haven't signed a scrub black RB yet, so maybe there is some hope. The key is how often they let him touch the ball. If he indeed becomes the new third down back, that would be wonderful.

The good thing about Woodhead is he can play receiver and he can play running back. He kind of fixes both things. If you need him to fill in as a running back, he can do that. If you need him to fill in at receiver, he can do that and he's playing special teams, so I think he's a valuable player right now for us."

31 year old Jones and new media darling "poor man's Peyton Hillis" Shonn Green are the only options I guess. This makes no sense to use two backs with more of a X-Y type agility (Jones is a bit of a blend though)-when they have a Leon Washington big play threat clone in Woodhead. The Jets new undersized "flashlight" must be kept in his place.

Not sure if anybody has mentioned this but Woodhead probably will be a healthy scratch for the rest of the season. It seems like Woodhead took the blame for Ginn taking it to the house twice as he was the containment guy on both td's. Considering he isn't a natural tackler and is undersized the Jets coaching staff seems like they were reaching coming up with this decision.

When he got activated this week he was a receiver did he get his hand off as an end around or a hand off to a back?

I'm hoping they let go of one of their running backs next season and Danny finds a permanant spot in the rotation as a #2 back. Keep fighting hard Danny.

I didn't see the game last night, but I noticed that Woodhead did not have any stats, but he wasn't a scratch, either. Did anybody "sight" Danny playing at all against the Bills? I notice that he's like the number 6 receiver on the latest Jets depth chart, behind outstanding affletes like David Clowney and Matt Jones wannabe Brad Smith, and Wallace Wright. The only RB's on the chart are Thomas Jones and Shonne Green, who had respectable games last night.
That game was unwatchable, but I did see Woodhead on kick coverage. Also, he lined up in the backfield on one play and motioned into a pass route - Sanchez threw it to him but he wasn't looking. It's a shame to see a great tailback covering kicks and playing slot receiver.
Woodheadwas in for a number of plays but wasn't utilized except for the one pass that Sanchez unloaded prematurely in his direction.
And yes that was an unwatchable game. It was interesting that the Toronto crowd didn't seem to be into it at all either. The Bills were supposed to be the "home" team but it was quiet almost the whole game, which added quite well to the dullness of it.
I've wondered if the networks don't pump in added crowd noise to build a false sense of excitement for viewers for many games. I know the DWFs in the stands often do their part as they are well lubricated, but the networks specialize in adding "excitement" to all their shows in various ways (canned laughter being the most obvious and longstanding) andcrowd noiseseems to me to be enhanced to the point of being almost non-stop during many NFL games.

Toronto has always had a reputation for having quiet crowds(Picture Tokyo Douglas vs Tyson). I don't know whether its because of the fact that ticket prices are usually sky high and only well connected white collar workers go to these events or because of the generally reserved Anglo-Saxon tradition of the city(which is dieing in non White areas of the city). Woodhead was on the screen for some blocks and tackles on special teams.

As someone from Toronto who followed the process surrounding the game, I can say that many factors play into the quiet crowd at the Bills game.
1) The Bills are not Toronto's team. Most of the fans in attendance were neutral.
2) High Ticket prices attracting a white collar crowd. This may have been offset by the fact that popular belief is that only 20,000 tickets were sold, with another 30,000 given away for nothing. Over all, the Bills series in Toronto has been an absolute disaster for the organizers. Organizers overpaid for the right to these games and charged high ticket prices expecting the games to sell out at any price. This has certainly not been the case with most people (myself included) not caring at all about these games. I would rather spend $300 on a pair of CFL season tickets than one seat to this so-called "event".
3) Rogers Centre (SkyDome) has to be the worst football stadium in North America in terms of atmosphere. The seats are far from the field, and are inclined like a baseball park, not the way a football stadium should be.
4) Tailgaiting with open liquor is illegal. Therefore, less drunken rowdies in attendance than in the US.
5) The football culture is not as strong in Toronto as in other Canadian cities or in the US. So you won't see as many fans screaming loudly for the defense like you see the DWFs doing in the US.
CFL games at Rogers Centre in Toronto are also less rowdy than in other cities like Montreal, Regina or Winnipeg.Edited by: TorontoArgos

Yeah Bear Backer, I remember the Colts were accused of pumping crowd noise into the RCA Dome. I can't remember which team accused them, but I'm sure the Colts were the team accused.
I think you're right about the Colts, Jack. I was kind of wondering out loud if it might be the networks themselves who add to the "excitement" by making the crowd seem louder and more enthused than what it is. I've noticed many times on network shows where you will hear a studio audience laughing loudly or supposedly applauding and yelling but when the crowd itself is shown or part of it is in the background of a shot, they'll be just sitting there, not applauding, laughing, or whatever the audio makes it seem like they're doing.
BTW, did anyone see the Browns-Chargers game? The Browns stadium looked to be no more than one-quarter filled. We're going to see some mostly empty stadiums the last couple weeks of the regular season. The tickets are mostly sold but teams are going to take a noticeable economic hit on parking, concession sales, etc, because of all the no-shows, especially in bad weather cities.Edited by: Don Wassall

Danny got the ball a bit more today. He didn't get any big runs but did okay running, He caught a big third and long pass for a first down. Did okay overall.
The guy in front of him, S. Greene fumbles again after a nice gain. Seems to have fumbleitis.
Danny is going to do some real good things before this season is over in my opinion.

I was hoping Danny would get about 8-10 carries a game but that hasn't happened. He did get 4 carries today but he needs more so he can get into a groove.

That's a great article. There is NO WAY that this guy shouldn't be starting for the Jets. Fast, talented, great hands, "fire in the belly", I would want this guy out there every play because of the intangibles that he brings, besides the obvious talent. But in a Black Mans World, this is a tough proposition.
