At least last year Mike Miller and Kirk Hinrich were getting heavy consideration. There's no reason to root for them at all now.

I'm not a religious guy but I'll be praying very hard for Lithuania, Spain, Italy, Serbia, Argentina, Russia and anyone else to beat "our" Dream Team this summer.

You might not have to pray that hard Liverlips, our dream team has gotten beat pretty often over the last decade. The Greece "upset" wasn't even close if my memory is correct. Didn't they win that by 15 points or more. I sure enjoyed watching it.

It's too bad Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash are playing for different countries, since they make the actual choices (uh-huh, Jason Kidd.. right...) seem like such a joke.

Maybe we can take a cue from another group and start rioting, boycotting and protesting. We can demand a team that "looks like America" with all the "strength, beauty and wisdom," of an American tapestry (or some other stupid saying that the lefties always use).

But I do think this racist "Nightmare Team" will go down to a superior all-white team. Not that this will stop the U.S. from fielding all-black teams. But it is fun to go into sports bars and see these fat, drunk white fans all sad and blue because "their" team lost to a bunch of whiteys with names they can't even pronounce.

Look at that studdering fool who is running for President. He is half white, raised by his white mother and white grandparents and still he considers himself black. His black irresponsible daddy was no where to be seen, except on the continent of Africa chasing another dumb white woman around or maybe one of his own natives females that time.

Kidd has a white wife doesnt he? I would say he is someone to root for on caste football. he's not overly hyped up on his athleticism either.

I'm not a huge fan of the NBA. Can anyone tell me which white players were passed over? Any obvious cases of racism?

I don't think there were any Liverlips. We've brainwashed coaches, scouts and -most importantly- prospective athletes that white Americans need not apply for basketball. All the best white players in the NBA (or at least the ones who get a shot) are foreigners who didn't grow up constantly being told that they can't hold a candle to the almighty black man. It's a f#$&ing tragedy.

I think there is one white American that should have made the "Dream Team". Mike Miller is much more athletic than Michael Redd who is a poor athlete, actually significantly less athletic than J.J Reddick according to his workout numbers. Michael Redd shot a lower FG% this year than Miller 44% compared to 50% and FG% is very important at the Olympics where less defensive fouls are called to send the American stars to the line. Redd also shot a lower 3 point FG% than Miller 36% compared to 43% and is a worse rebounder and passer and only around equal defensively. It is the same story with their careers as this season. I'm sure the U.S team went with Michael Redd because the consensus is he is better for no other reason than he shoots more! Picking Redd for the U.S team over Miller is a huge mistake.

The fact that Miller was left off in favor of Michael Redd is another reason for me to root "very" hard against the United States basketball team. I would prefer Canada anyway, even if both teams were equally fair to white players which they are not!

Racial issues aside, this team will have the same problems that the 04' team had. The team only has one center and if Howard gets in foul trouble or is tired they could get manhandled by bigger teams. Seeing the US playing in the 6th place game against Togo will be fun to watch...

As much as I would like and even expect this team to not win gold at the Olympics, I think them playing for 6th place against Togo is far fetched, not going to happen. I hope they do that badly but in reality anything less than the gold is a disaster for this star studded team.

Bosh, Boozer, and Howard. that's it!

and only one of those three (Howard) is a big shot blocker.

so they have one backup big man. and one shooter in Michael Redd.

it's the same damn team over and over again!

and I know this isn't the Kevin Love thread, but he would have been a good fit on this team. He has beef, he can bang inside, he is a good rebounder, great outlet passer and he can shoot from the outside. plus he is smart and hustles. before he lost weight he reminded me of a fat Larry Bird. now that he has lost weight he could be a very good player.


also, no Chauncey Billups? no Rip Hamilton? No KG? No Paul Pierce? No Ray Allen? those guys are veterans, winners and can all shoot as well as do other things.

just a dumb team.

All of those guys were asked, along with Tim Duncan, but they declined the invitations. After easily winning the gold in 1992, 1996, and 2000, the novelty of pros playing in the Olympics wore off. For foreign countries, it's an honor to represent your nation. For NBA players, it's a nuisance that for many years they were trying to get out of.


In 2004, the US only sent 2 All-Stars, 1 injured, and they still got the bronze. This years guys had enough of people saying the other countries caught up in talent, so they decided to give a damn and play.This team is not the same as the others inany way, shape, or fashion.

I seem to recall the US being within a long three from losing to Lithuania in the Semis at Sydney. Also they had a 4 point lead on France with about 2 minutes to go. If that is crushing your competition, then what's squeeking by them...
