Steve Sabol died today of brain cancer. His father, Ed, founded NFL Films and was inducted into the Pro Football HOF last year. If John Facenda was the voice of NFL Films, Steve Sabol was the face by introducing the segments for many years.

From what I remember of the story of the founding of NFL Films it was a part time operation that Ed Sabol founded while he owned a Haberdashery in NYC. He hired his son to help film and edit the highlights. I think what separated them from other films about the league was their on field sounds and the later hiring of John Facenda and other narrators. Also Steve Sabol always had an easy interview technique like he was interviewing the players and coaches at the neighbourhood pub. Anyway RIP.
