The Maxprep website has some amazing data. They have a dropdown menu with a US map and then show how many high school players have been recruited for division one football teams from each state for the coming 2009 season. Very informative and depressing. Highlights were Florida with 347, Texas with 402, Califoria with 297. Georgia with 171, Penn with 84, Ohio with 159. Most southern states had lots, when controlled for population size, such as Missisippi with 69.
Meanwhile, mostly white states had much lower numbers. Wisconsin had 14, Iowa 13, Nebraska only 7, Kansas 18, none from Vermont,Maine, South Dakota, 1 from North Dakota. In the case of Iowa and Wisconsin most of the recruits went to their home state team. If Iowa wasn't so white friendly, I doubt whether many of these white athletes would have many other offers. Utah had 29, not sure how many were white, but Utah schools recruited 20 of them.
Put in most graphic terms is the fact that the mostly white states of Maine, Vermont, both zero, New Hampshire 3, Wisconsin 14, Minnesota 10, the Dakotas 1, Montana 2, Nebraska 7, and Iowa with 13 yielded only 50 recruits (and not all of them white either). Meanwhile the much more black state of Mississipi with a population only a little bigger than Nebraska yields 69. Edited by: referendum
