I can't belive no one is commenting on this race by Collio. It's a 10.06 guys! It is the 2nd fastest time ever run by an Italian. Only the great Mennea has ever run faster.

This has been an awesome summer! 3 different guys under 10.10. That's a high ratio considering how many guys we have in 100m!

Technically that is a faster time. I think altitude gives the runner about a 1/10th of a second. So many guys are dancing around the magical ten barrier. It should fall soon. Edited by: white is right

It's a shame it would have been 4 if the wind on Pickering's 10.08 was 0.1 m/s slower. We could forseeably have a half dozen or so of our guys under 10.10 by the end of the season. Maybe even a couple at 9.xx. Considering that in my memory we haven't had a single guy below 10.10 in any of the last about 4 years this is terrific news and a very exciting time to be an advocate of the white sprinter.

wow! I got to admit I sort have wrote the italians off this season. I thought if any of them would post a good time it would be at the end of the season on their home turf. big shocker, did not see that coming. Congratulation to Collio!

I'm happy for Collio because at 29, this might be his last big championships. I would have prefered that Cerutti ran the time however since he is 23 and still has a long ways to go in his career. The good thing is that maybe this will inspire Fabio to get back on track. Also I hope that Collio can go out with a bang. The question is can he do that through rounds. I doubt it as all of his other races have been in the 10.24 and up range but I hope I'm wrong. It must have been a very small meet because no one is really talking about it at the track boards. Congrats to Simone Collio!

Congrats indeed to Collio.Really I had forgotten about him.Hanging a big 10.0X on the board is a big beal for a guy with that much tread off the tires. What always concerns me about a situation like this is the question:Is this his Bob Beamon moment or could his body produce such a thing again(it's not unheard of anybody remember Allan Wells),considering that could there be a personal renaissance for him. I hope the last.

Most guys who train well- can still maintain their speed into their early 30s. Your ideal prime is in your mid to late 20s though. Good luck to Collio on breaking 10.10 a few more times and maybe with the perfect race going sub 10.

This is what Simone wrote from his website about his feelings about running a 10.06 personal best. He is drunk off a bottle of wine but it makes for an interesting read. I can tell he really misses his Dad & would have loved to have had him there. Congratulations Simone. You have worked damn hard to get to this point. You deserver that bottle of wine and your peace at home. You ran the race of your life. Here is the letter he wrote.

that's some deep sh*t right there! the vino has definitely got him. good for him! great to see him get a great time in before it was too late. "the fastest since Mennea!" that's a title I wouldn't mind having.

Damn, he could be an english teacher at Harvard. Simone Collio is a warrior, and deserves his 10.06. He should be very content with that time even if it never happens again. I can only hope he bests many by just over .01.

Collio ran 10.19 in Italy today with negative wind. It shows that he 10.06 was not a fluke. Too bad he didn't perform well at the WC.

You beat me to it jacknyc. This is a very strong run for Simone but what the hell happened to him in Berlin. I just can't figure out how Collio and Cerutti just joked. Especially Simone with a decade of experience. Regardless of that, this has been by far his best year as a sprinter. Maybe he will still be a force to be reckoned with for a couple of more years. I sure hope so. He is a great guy and a joy to watch sprinting.

He ran a 10.49! I don't think Simone has run that slow since high school. He choked! I'm still proud of him to bounce back like this.

10.49? Ouch. Very sad that that happened, as he won't have too many for chances aged 29. Still, I always remember that Linford Christie didn't peak till he won the 1993 WC in 9.87, aged 33. Hopefully Collio will be lining up in the final of the Euro Champs next year, alongside Pickering, Guliyev, and Lemaitre, possibly Cerutti and Osovnikar too. Be good to see a majority of whitesprinters in the final.

Another big meet on Tuesday in Roverto, Italy. Both Simone Collio and Fabio Cerutti are running in the 100 meters. There is some pretty good sprinters from around the world there as well. I wonder if these guys will have anything left after a long season and going on only a few days rest. Good luck to the italian stallions!

Simone Collio opens his season up in Doha in a few hours. There are some live feeds to the meet for those interested. I will try to post one here in a little while. Good luck to Simone. He ran a 10.06 last season. Maybe he can finally get that elusive sub 10 this summer.
