I know we tend to concentrate on the Sprinters on this forum but I was watching the London marathon this last weekend and was greatly impressed by a young American runner called Ryan Hall. He was leading after 20 miles and seemed not be intimidated or overawed by the assembled african runners in the leading group. He faded to 7th in the final 5 miles but still finished in a time of 2:08:24 - less than a minute behind the winner in his FIRST EVER competative Marathon. He is 24, which is young for a marathon runner, and is also the first U.S. runner to run the half marathon in under one hour.Edited by: devans

I agree. He comes to race. Maybe American distance running is coming out of the doldrums.
The half marathon American record he broke(Mark Curp) was almost 22 years old!

Hall is a terrific talent. He has the potential to compete with the best of them.Look at Craig Mottram. He has never been afraid of running with the Africans. This is great to have a young american guy stepping up.Good luck to Ryan in the future.
