The above article states that 45% of American children come from low income families and 65% of American children come from families which are receiving government aid. Both of those statistics are record highs within post WW2 times which would indicate poverty in USA is greater today than at any time since the 1930s. Who is paying for these kids (mainly single and/or divorced men I'm guessing)? It seems that poverty in the USA is on the rise and the level of poverty in the USA Today is the highest it's been since the Great Depression.

Personally, honestly think the quality of life is declining in North America. Here in Canada, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and NWT are doing well because we have the 2nd largest reserve of crude petroleum in the world, but there is no future for the rest of the country. There is a lot of poverty and unemployment in Eas
tern Canada.

In USA things are even worse, and we see so many manufacturing jobs lost and cities suffering decay and poverty. Wages have dropped and people have little discretionary income, usually relying on government handouts. Parts of USA are starting to rival the third world literally. Many parts of USA are actually worse off than Asian countries, for example. Poverty in USA is affecting whites and nonwhite.

What does everyone make of these changes? Do you agree the quality of life is declining in North America and poverty is on the rise? What have you seen in your lifetime and what was the "turning point" that brought on this poverty? Do you think USA will soon become a "third world" country (the truth is many parts of it already are).
