Judge finds Reardon not guilty on robbery charge
ESPN.com news services

A Palm Beach County circuit judge on Monday found former relief pitcher Jeff Reardon not guilty by reason of insanity on charges of robbing a jewelry store, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

Reardon's attorneys said the former reliever, who pitched for seven teams over 16 years and won a World Series with the Minnesota Twins in 1987, was distraught over the 2004 death of a son and had been taking anti-depressants and mood stabilizers, the newspaper reported.

Two court-appointed psychiatrists, along with two defense psychiatrists, concluded there was no reasonable or logical explanation for Reardon to rob a jewelry store, according to the report.

After Judge Stephen Rapp's ruling was announced on Monday, Reardon said he was pleased and relieved. He had been worried about going to jail, he told the newspaper.

"I don't think I've ever had a speeding ticket before for crying out loud," Reardon told the Sun-Sentinel.

Reardon is to return before Rapp in six months for a court-ordered review of his case, the newspaper reported. For once a celebrity deserves to walk on his charges and didn't buy his freedom(OJ,Robert Blake and others)....
